From the Lohan Only Wishes files: a woman in Staffordshire, England was fined for embellishing her ankle bracelet in fake diamonds (pictured below). Rebecca Gallanagh, 22, was charged £140 ($220) for the anklet makeover.
Gallanagh was sentenced to wear the ankle bracelet in November after being involved in a fight outside the Staffordshire bar Bullit. It was meant to enforce a 9 p.m. – 7 a.m. curfew for three months, but Gallanagh found it doubled nicely as an attractive accessory. She was inspired by no less of a tastemaker than a woman on the reality show My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, the same series that inspired Kate Moss to get married.
The former bar worker claims it was the woman who originally outfitted her with the bracelet who told her about the Gypsy episode. “She said I could do that,” Gallanagh claims, according to the Daily Mail. “I saw pictures of it online and checked the leaflet, and nowhere did it say I couldn’t decorate it.”
The court disagreed, siding with the prosecution’s argument that she had “compromised the integrity” of her ankle bracelet. Gallanagh told the Daily Mail the bracelet “was still working and I was being monitored.”
The Snooki-goes-to-a-maximum-security-Claire’s look was the perfect match for Gallanagh’s signature style. “I like to bling things up, and wear blingy clothes and watches,” she says. “It just matched my style.” And yet for that crime she goes free. Where is the justice?
