Elton John’s glasses are nearly as famous as the man himself, and apparently require just as much coddling. The 65-year-old requested a separate hotel room to store his eyewear while touring Brazil, the Daily Telegraph reported.
John is staying in the five-star Ouro Minas hotel in Belo Horizonte. As if extending the five-star treatment to spectacles isn’t eccentric enough, he also requested the temperature in the glass’s room be maintained at precisely 16 degrees Celsius, a spokesperson for the tour’s production company goss-ed.
Storing eyeglasses below room temperature isn’t a common practice, but then again, we’re talking about a man who owns over 250,000 pairs. If anyone would know what temperature you should store them at, it would be him.
John’s signature eyewear has included Swarozski crystal-studded sunglasses that Armani designed for his duet with Lady Gaga at the Grammys in 2010, a pair with built-in windshield-style wipers, and a pair that light-up to spell Elton that were purchased by the L.A. Hard Rock Café in 1988 for nearly $17,000 USD.
John’s rep denied that he booked a hotel room for his glasses, but even if it’s not true, it should be true. What? The guy whose documentary is called Tantrums & Tiaras is worried the world is going to think he’s a diva?
