Dove jerked our tears on Tuesday with a video aimed at boosting women’s self-esteem, titled “You’re More Beautiful Than You Think.” Now for the rebuttal: comedy troupe New Feelings Time has reimagined the spot as if it was done by a gang of cocky dudes.
In the original, a sketch artist who can’t see his subject asks women to describe themselves with questions such as “tell me about your hair” and “what is your most prominent feature?” He then asks a stranger to describe the same person. The difference between the sketches is stunning, as the drawing based on the woman’s self-assessment is invariably less attractive than the stranger’s. The moral: you go girl, everyone thinks you pretty.
In a perfect twist, the comedy sketch has guys describing themselves with characteristic macho bravado. One guy calls himself “a white Denzel Washington,” another is filmed in slow-motion kissing his muscles. A group of women then compare notes, with feedback such as “he looked like he smelled–really bad” and “his eyes were… rapey?”
The self-described sketches show movie stars such as Brad Pitt and George Clooney; as for the sketches dictated by the women, one guy describes his as “he looks like he’ll probably die soon.”
