Who says an actress’s career ends at 40? For Cate Blanchett, 44, 2013 is shaping up to be one of her best years yet. Her latest triumph is the new campaign for the Armani fragrance Si. The unflinching beauty shot has Blanchett wearing a simple, unbuttoned white blouse and minimal makeup for maximum gorgeousness.
According to Frangetica, the new Armani Si fragrance blends patchouli and vanilla—just the notes you would expect from the Lord of the Rings‘ elf queen.
Blanchett has only leant her endorsement to one beauty line before, the Japanese brand SK-II, her personal swear-by. However, she’s been just as loyal to Giorgio Armani, wearing his designs at high-glam events such as Cannes and Australia’s ACTRA awards and sitting front-row in his shows at Paris Fashion Week.
The admiration is mutual. Armani reportedly paid Blanchett an astounding $10 million for the campaign, a deal that instantly catapults her onto the list of the world’s top 100 richest celebrities. Forbes most recently estimated Gwyneth Paltrow and Kim Kardashian earned $10 million in an entire year.
This is only one part of what is shaping up to be an extraordinary year for Blanchett. Her performance as a socialite in the midst of a breakdown in last month’s Woody Allen film Blue Jasmine made her an early frontrunner in the Best Actress Oscar race while December’s Hobbit sequel The Desolation of Smaug, in which she’ll play elf queen Galadriel for a fifth time, is a certain blockbuster. $10 million may be a huge pay day, but with Blanchett, to borrow the parlance of another beauty campaign, it’s because she’s worth it.
