It’s been an awful week as scores of women in Hollywood have come forward to share their stories of sexual abuse by Harvey Weinstein. There is one person opening up who might surprise you. Actor Terry Crews was so moved by the bravery of these women that he followed suit — and felt it was necessary to go public with his own experience of sexual assault at the hands of an industry bigwig, both to support other victims and to help prevent such abuses from occurring in the future.

In a series of tweets Tuesday afternoon, Crews revealed that, while attending an industry party last year with his wife, a male exec groped him. IN FRONT OF HIS WIFE. And while Crews wanted to pummel the disgusting assailant, he kept his cool because, well, jail, and that sadly, he feared he would be ostracized by those with power in the industry.

This is proof that some people in power truly believe they can do anything. In this case, taking on a 240-pound dude who could thump him into the ground with his pinky… smugly confident in the knowledge that Crews wouldn’t/couldn’t do anything. And this was LAST YEAR! Crews is an established celeb, on the fifth season of a hit show, and has a loyal fan base — yet he was still nervous about being ostracized. Now, think of a woman, or a young man, trying to make it in Hollywood, and the things they’ve been asked/told/forced to do… OR ELSE.

If Terry Crews can be assaulted in front of his wife by a power-wielding predator, it’s no wonder people feel powerless in similar situations. Absolutely horrific. We’re sure we speak on behalf of everyone when we say, thank you for speaking up, Terry.
