The ‘Bachelorette’ premiere proves Clare Crawley is 100% in charge (except when it comes to Dale)

Also... what was up with that straight-jacket guy?

We don’t know if it’s because Clare Crawley is the first Bachelorette to operate in a pandemic (they only mentioned it 17 times), or because she’s been through this process before on The Bachelor and Bachelor in Paradise, or because she’s just a smart and savvy lady, but Tuesday night’s premiere of the all-new Bachelorette season was proof that she is not to be messed with. The no-nonsense Bach lead didn’t have time for anyone’s drama and just cut right to the chase—and we love her for it. Basically, she’s the exact opposite of Pilot Pete (burn).Last night’s premiere saw Clare ready to film her season when the pandemic forced production to shut down in March. She, her dogs(!), and her harem of men waited for months, all the way until July, before they were able to start up again after rigorous quarantining, testing and physical distancing protocols. So by the time Clare was standing outside the Bachelor mansion, greeting each man as he emerged from the limo, she was waaay prepared.
“I googled all the men that were going to be on the season, took lots of notes,” she told Jimmy Kimmel on his show after the premiere aired. Dang. Detective Achievement Level: UNLOCKED! So perhaps she wasn’t too surprised when some men showed up in ill-conceived costumes like full knight in shining armor gear, or even an actual straight-jacket (Spoiler alert: that straight-jacket guy ended up getting a rose, and we’re still not sure where he pinned it). No comments were made about how totally inappropriate it was to trivialize mental illness in that way.

New Tyler C. is Officially the Worst Tyler C.

Most of the drama of the first night centered on contestants Yosef and Tyler C. (not to be confused with Hannah B.'s Tyler Cameron, who is obviously the superior Tyler C.). New Tyler C. confronted Yosef about some nondescript rumour he had heard, namely that during quarantine, Yosef was DMing young girls and sending them videos. Yosef denied the whole thing (and this is where we had our first “I’m here for the right reasons,” so mark your BINGO cards). But before Tyler C. could tell Clare, Yosef grabbed her and told her first. What? There are clearly no rules here, people. As the two men bickered in front of her, Clare was having none of their high-schoolery tomfoolery, and interrupted them to get back to the other less childish men, letting Yosef and Tyler carry on themselves. Stand up and cheer, Bachelor Nation, we have a WOMAN in charge on our hands![video_embed id='1977727']RELATED: Will the casting of the first Black Bachelor create meaningful change? [/video_embed]“I will tell you I'm a woman that knows exactly what I want and exactly what I'm looking for and that's the benefit of being 39, so you'll have to see,” she also explained to Kimmel, which brought up another unresolved point of contention—during the season sneak peak, one man mocks Clare by calling her the “oldest” Bachelorette.“They keep acting like you're 75 years old, it's ridiculous,” Jimmy replied. “You'd think based on how many times that gets mentioned that Ruth Bader Ginsburg was the Bachelorette.” First of all, rest in peace RBG, and second, where’s the lie?

Her Husband, Dale

We cannot forget the other major dramatic plot point—Clare's instant connection and attraction to Dale (who is objectively dreamy). “I think I just met my husband,” she gasped after barely speaking to him and hugging him during the limo entrances.
All throughout the episode, it was obvious that she was besotted with the former footballer, much to everyone’s surprise, especially Bachelor Nation, who took to Twitter to share their confusion. Clare spent most of the episode reminding us how mature she is, and then fell head over heals for a guy she just met. People had questions. The rumour mill all year has been speculating that Clare actually leaves the show halfway through because she’s smitten with Dale (what’s not to love?) causing a huge upset, resulting in Tayshia Adams coming in to take her place. However, Clare told Jimmy that all that talk just isn't true.“Well that's what the rumour is,” she said on Live!. “I can confirm that that is false.”Wait, what?In the end, Dale of course got the First Impression rose, Yosef got a rose, and Tyler C. was sent home, so it remains to be seen how this choice will affect the rest of the season.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Great Dane's funny first attempt at wearing a Halloween costume [/video_embed]
