Based on past red carpet arrivals to the Much Music Video Awards, celebrities seem to think that Canada is the Wild West. But we’re The North, you guys! Regardless, music’s finest go all out for the MMVAs. We’ve seen everything from dunk tanks to actual tanks show up at the Much HQ.
To celebrate the 2017 IHEARTRADIO MUCH MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS, we look back at the most memorable and ridiculous red carpet arrivals of all time.
The most outrageous MMVA arrivals of all time
Marianas Trench, 2001Marianas Trench rolled into the awards in style—they're kind of the kings of epic MMVA arrivals, as you'll see—and by “rolled" we're not talking about in a vehicle. Nope, each band member was inside of a life-size bubble.Getty Images
Billy Talent, 2005The boys of Billy Talent came prepared to defend their slew of nominations in 2005. The group walked away with the most awards that night, and we can only guess it was because the other nominees were scared off by the tank.Getty Images
Eric Prydz, 2005British DJ Eric Pryz brought a bit of London to the 6ix when he pulled up in a cherry red, double-decker bus. But it was his clan of dancers, decked out in '80s aerobics gear, with the most provocative moves down pat, that stole the show in '05.Getty Images
Marianas Trench, 2015You'd think these guys would be running out of ideas after over a decade of MMVA red carpets, but nope. Last year, the bandmates arrived looking ready for a cottage weekend. You'd better be waiting 30 minutes before getting in the water, Marianas Trench!Getty Images
Justin Bieber, 2012While this wasn't the most creative arrival, it sure gave the Mini Katy's a run for their money on the swoon scale. The Biebs and baby bro Jaxon had teen screams sounding all the way from downtown Toronto to Muskoka. Seriously, when in doubt, carry a toddler.CP Images
Katy Perry, 2012From the bright, blue wig that Katy rocked in the “Teenage Dream" video, to the full on camo she sported in “Part of Me," the pop star's mini versions on the 2012 red carpet were the most adorable, pint-sized versions of all our fav Perrys.CP Images
Kresha Turner, 2012We're not sure whether Kesha Turner's entourage was having fun or not—their faces were masked and leather hoods drawn, so we couldn't see their expressions. But men in kilts are generally also in good humour, so we like to imagine they're smiling behind those leather balaclavas.CP Images
Marianas Trench, 2010Hot tubs are great. We love our friends who have hot tubs more than our friends who don't. But showing up in a hot tub thats's being driven on a flatbed truck? Crazy! Totally crazy, you guys!CP Images
Liz Trinnear, 2014Wild red carpet arrivals aren't limited to the musicians. Much host Liz Trinnear made that clear when she arrived by chariot, which was carried in the air by six topless (and totally toned) men. We salute you, Liz!CP Images
Marianas Trench, 2013By 2013, Marianas Trench were MMVA veterans. Naturally, they brought a dunk tank. Fans ate it up as the foursome accompanied their aquatic installation dressed up as mermaids.Getty Images
Walk Off The Earth, 2015Burlington, Ontario natives Walk Off The Earth really messed with our minds when they showed up with five different groups of clones. Seriously, we're still not sure which was actually them.CP Images
Marianas Trench, 2014Seriously, we could make a photo gallery dedicated to these guys' imaginative entrances. In 2014, the group had a movie-like pillow fight in the streets of Toronto—complete with a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, PJs and all.Getty Images
Karl Wolf, 2010We're going to go ahead and take a wild guess that Karl Wolf's favourite film is Back to the Future, and that he lived out a childhood dream in 2010 when he drove up to the Much Music HQ in a silver Delorean.CP Images
Lights, 2009Most people bring their parents/boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife/siblings on the red carpet. But not singer Lights. Instead, her date was out of this world. Literally, he looked like he'd just come back from a space voyage far, far away. And we still have no idea who was inside of that costume! Or… was it a costume?!CP Images
Marianas Trench, 2009When in doubt, float it out. And by that, we mean show up with a full on parade float that would put Santa Clause to shame. What will they do next? We can't wait to find out.Getty Images
