If you want to lose weight, forget about getting on that treadmill and grab a ball instead–at least that’s what one Canadian did.
Randy Fyfe, a web developer from Winnipeg, realized that he needed to get his weight in check when he had to upgrade to an XXL shirt. In May of last year, Fyfe joined a dodgeball league and to-date has lost a whopping 80 pounds.
If you’re thinking, “Hey, this guy just got lucky,” health experts say not-so-fast.
“One area that we’ve been neglecting over the last few decades is the simple idea of enjoyment [in exercise],” says Dr. Shaelyn Strachan, who studies exercise psychology at the University of Manitoba.
Turns out if you enjoy “playing around,” you’re motivated to keep going and end up losing more weight. Go figure, right?
