Back when coronavirus put most of North America into social distancing mode (so you know, just over two weeks ago), the virus proved that it didn’t care who it attacked when everyone’s dad, Tom Hanks, and his wife Rita Wilson announced that they had tested positive for COVID-19. Now, after quarantining themselves in Australia and keeping fans up-to-date on their health (while also reigniting a debate about vegemite and revealing they travel with a typwriter), the duo are back on American soil and seem to have recovered. It’s the good news fans everywhere have been waiting for.“Hey, Folks… We’re home now and, like the rest of America, we carry on with sheltering in place and social distancing,” Hanks shared on Twitter on March 28. “Many, many thanks to everyone in Australia who looked after us. Their care and guidance made possible our return to the USA. And many thanks to all of you who reached out with well wishes. Rita and I so appreciate it. Hanx.”“Hanx” didn’t say how they got home (it’s probably safe to assume private jet, right?) but maybe fans will get lucky and the world will receive another shirtless update from the couple’s son, Chet Hanks. In the meantime, the star duo seem happy to be alive, something Wilson reiterated on her own social media accounts. The singer and actress posted a photo with Larry David on March 29 in which she reflected on being in his Broadway play, Fish in the Dark, before learning she’d been diagnosed with breast cancer five years ago. “March 29 also marks five years of being cancer free after having a bilateral mastectomy,” she wrote in a thread. “I am celebrating the beauty of this life, the blessings God has given, and my continued good health, even now as a COVID-19 survivor. Please take a moment today to acknowledge the amazing creation your bodies are and to thank it for doing so much.” The couple were down under in Queensland while Hanks got ready to film his latest project, Elvis, the Elvis Presley biopic from Moulin Rouge! And Romeo + Juliet director Baz Luhrmann. Hanks was cast to play the famous crooner’s manager, Col. Tom Parker. Austin Butler (Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood) was hired to play Elvis himself, and thanks to the success of recent musical biopics like Rocketman, Judy and Bohemian Rhapsody, the movie was expected to take Butler’s career to that next level. Now, like many other productions, the project has been postponed indefinitely and Butler is among the many celebrities urging people to stay at home to help flatten the curve during the coronavirus pandemic.Given that the U.S. currently leads the world in coronavirus cases (there are more than 116,000 so far), it could be a while before filming—and many other industries—return to anything close to normal. In the meantime, fans everywhere are eagerly awaiting the next “Hanx” update, this time from the home front.[video_embed id='1921568']RELATED: Tom Hanks keeps the world updated from isolation[/video_embed]
