The internet isn’t usually big on knitting—viral content is reserved for yawning kittens and babies spitting up all over their parents, then letting out some adorable coo. So when a story on crafting makes a headline, we just know it’s got to be good.
Let us introduce you to Sam Barsky, a whiz with knitting needles and an artistic eye to boot. The Baltimore resident has been whipping up sweaters with pictures of places he’s been (like New York City) and things he’s seen (like ant hills) for decades, but just this week, his cozy creations found their way into the eyeballs of the general public after ending up on the front page of Reddit.
“I started knitting in March 1999 and made two solid coloured sweaters followed from a pattern,” Barsky told Mashable.
And honestly, we, along with the rest of the Internet, are totally in love with Barsky and his handmade sweaters.
He’s already crafted 103 of them, so here are some of our favourites.
You need to see the incredible sweaters this guy knits of the places he visits
Time SquareHere he is looking well-dressed, and well-travelled. We went to New York and all we got was a lousy T-shirt. He, on the other hand, made a whole sweater before he went to Time Square.Facebook/Artistic Knitting of Sam Barsky
Cherry BlossomsThis sweater truly captures the spirit of the cherry blossom trees. He practically IS spring.Facebook/Artistic Knitting of Sam Barsky
Capitol HillLooks like he's been to Washington, D.C. as well. Many of his sweaters seem quite patriotic, don't they?Facebook/Artistic Knitting of Sam Barsky
Waterfront CityscapeOkay, this rendering of water, sky and little buildings that dot the coastline is seriously neat.Facebook/Artistic Knitting of Sam Barsky
Ant HillSome of his other adventures and knit creations are simply about getting out into nature. Here he is rocking his short-sleeved ant hill sweater in front of an ant hill, naturally.Facebook/Artistic Knitting of Sam Barsky
Niagara FallsAlso on his past travel/sweater itinerary: Niagara Falls. We love the muted colours of this one -- the man has talent. But is that thing really waterproof?Facebook/Artistic Knitting of Sam Barsky
Baseball DiamondSam loves baseball, and his sweater of the Oakland A's stadium is pretty accurate, if you ask us. Hey Oakland, if you need a new jersey designed, we know a guy.Facebook/Artistic Knitting of Sam Barsky
Solar SystemHe's also got a thing for the planetary system, as displayed by this astrological-themed, very long-sleeved sweater, complete with a lifelike rendering of Saturn. Far out, man.Facebook/Artistic Knitting of Sam Barsky
NutcrackerOur favourite part of this look is the turtleneck worn underneath. We're actually going to steal that trick. Wait, we take that back; we love the four nutcrackers on the front and at least another one on each sleeve. So many nutcrackers.Facebook/Artistic Knitting of Sam Barsky
SheepThis one's very meta: a sweater depicting sheep, made entirely from sheep. Mind, blown! Seriously though, is he selling these? #wantFacebook/Artistic Knitting of Sam Barsky
