We’ve all got concealer. It smooths out lines, it covers up problem blemishes and it’s just a really great thing to have. But we’re using it incorrectly most of the time. That’s why, you should always abide by these ten simple commandments for using concealer correctly:
Thou Shalt Not Wear Alone
Concealer is made to spot treat, so apply after your foundation or tinted moisturizer.
Thou Shalt Mix It Up
Mix it with primer or serum if you’re worried about it being too heavy, and falling into the cracks of your skin.
Thou Shalt Avoid Oil
This is a no-oil zone, so after you apply foundation or tinted moisturizer, powder your face and then apply concealer.
Thou shalt work with colour
Know your colours: green conceals red, peach is good for neutralizing blue.
Thou shalt multiply uses
A concealer isn’t just a concealer. Try using it as an eyeshadow primer, or make use of it for defining brows.
Thou shalt accentuate
Again, it’s not just a concealer. Use it as a highlighter!
Thou shalt use the proper technique
Make a V, not a half moon. V’s look the most natural, while half moons are the reason people get raccoon eyes.
Thou shalt not look cakey
Concealer sitting in fine lines? Just take a tissue and blot it right off
Thou shalt know your options
Creams and sticks are best for dark spots, ’cause they’re heavier. Pencils and liquids with brushes are for blemishes, because they’re the most precise.
Thou shalt have your brush game on point
Use brushes that are tapered, because you can easily get in the corner of your eyes and nose, and the edges of your mouth. Also, use densely packed brushes, because they will absorb the most product and get the most product on your face.
