You asked – we answered!

Our viewers had so many fantastic makeup questions, we called in one of The Social’s makeup artists, Nikki Strachan, to answer them – while doing Jess’ face!

But before we get to the products, here are some of Nikki’s tried and true tips.

Do your Brows first

They set the tone for the face. If you’re looking for a product to fill in your brows, Nikki says to stick with the shade of your hair. “I like a pencil. Sometimes cream tends to give off a bit too harsh of a brow.”

Go big with mascara or lipstick

If you’re only going to use one product on your face, make it either mascara or a great lip colour.

Fake lashes are your friend

Hot tip for applying fake eyelashes – do it when you’re looking DOWN, not UP. If you have glasses and want to wear false lashes, avoid super glam looking lashes and try individual lashes. “They’re great because they come in all different lengths,” Nikki says. “If you can get a pack that has short, medium and long options – that’s ideal. Start with the short and see how they feel.”

Do eyeshadow before your face

If you’re doing a smoky eye, do your eyes before your face, so any clean-up doesn’t run onto fully made-up skin.

Skincare is key

“If you can build your base with good skincare, I’m telling you makeup will be a dream,” Nikki says. A vitamin C serum is everything. It’ll give you a natural dew. Apply it before your moisturizer.

Know your products

What’s the difference between foundation and BB Cream? Foundation does just one thing – provides coverage. BB Cream contains different components – things like moisturizer, primer, SPF – so you get a little bit more in a BB Cream than a foundation, BUT also less coverage.

KNOW WHERE TO apply blush

When applying blush, apply it on the apple of your cheek. Don’t bring it up too much – that could easily (and unintentionally!) lead to an eighties retro look.

Don’t forget lip balm

Want your lipstick to stay? Apply lip balm first to keep your lips hydrated, then line your lips with a pencil before applying lipstick.
