Real fur is a divisive subject, but so is faux.
A lot of the time, when we think of faux, we think of its obvious fakeness. Like, you’re thinking, I can spot faux a mile away, and we get that. This is true of a lot of different pieces, but what if you could buy affordable faux furs that don’t look junky at all?
Well, you can. But before you set out on your faux-finding mission, keep in mind some good rules of thumb:
- A little goes a long way. Faux collars, sleeves, hats or bags can give you the warm fuzzies without looking fake.
- Texture is important. It doesn’t necessarily need to feel like mink, but it should have a pleasant textural feel. If it feels rough or if there is a lot of bunching, then you’ll want to avoid it. A smoothed, even distribution will give you the chicest outcome.
- Colour isn’t bad. Avoid neon and Muppet furs, but subtle hues like pale pink or variants of cream provide a lovely effect.
- Patterns are exciting. We’re not saying go out and buy a technicolour dream coat, but a tiered striped pattern or leopard print is a great way to showcase your individual style. In both cases, look for patterns that are slightly blurred and muted, because these look much more natural.
Now that we’ve taken care of that business, here are 10 easy pieces of faux fur that will make you look fur real.
