Vancouver has a big problem.
Strewn throughout the city are abandoned, million-dollar homes. Some of them are heritage properties, some of them are iconic, but they all have one thing in common: they’re decaying with nobody living in them.
At the same time, The State of Homelessness in Canada 2013 report by the Wellesley Institute pegged Vancouver as the fourth highest city in Canada for “Severe housing need.” Housing prices in the area are also among the most unaffordable in the world.
The result is that locals are angry, and they’ve started a crowdsourced blog in the hopes that it will spur government action. Listed on the site are dozens of abandoned, beautiful homes. Here are the most shocking ones we found:

587 West King Edward Ave.It looks like Sauron's orcs finally found the beloved "Hobbit house" in Vancouver. Whatever the case, this place has seen better days. The one of a kind home has apparently been sitting empty for over a year, which is a total shame when you consider how many people would love to feel like they're living in a piece of Middle-Earth. 1734 Collingwood StreetThis heritage home has been sitting empty for at least a year. Neighbours say it used to be kept in fantastic condition, but ever since a developer purchased the property and left it abandoned, they've been flooded with rats.
