Tattoos aren’t for everyone. In fact, you either think they’re the best things ever, or you think people who permanently mark up their bodies are crazy. But you know what’s crazier than that? People who choose to get something and don’t double-check — hell, quadruple-check — things like spelling and translations.
You’d think celebs would be immune to this problem, though. They have assistants and friends and yes men and phones with spellcheck. And, um, Google. But they wind up getting tattoos that aren’t exactly what they were going for, just like us.
11 epic celebrity tattoo fails
Jennifer LawrenceJ-Law's "watered-down rebellion" came in the form of a barely visible, scientifically incorrect tattoo as the "2" in H20 hangs higher than it's supposed to. Tsk, tsk, Jen.Getty Images
Hayden PanettiereThe 'Nashville' star's back tattoo was meant to translate to "Live without regrets" in Italian. But without the extra "i" (it should read 'rimpianti," not "rimipianti"), we're not sure what it means. Getty Images
David BeckhamBecks' romantic gesture to his wife went sideways with his attempt to get her name on his arm in Sanskrit — when it came out "Vihctoria" instead. He added another "Victoria" years later. Plus, with all the ink he's got, it's barely noticeable.Getty Images
RihannaHer goal was to prove she was a "rebellious flower" but since French is such a tricky language, her ink puts the adjective before the noun, translating to "flower rebel." That's rebellious, right?Getty Images
Britney SpearsBrit had her other erroneous tattoo removed (the "God" in Hebrew one on the back of her neck that was misspelled) but the little Chinese symbol on her hip is so small she probably can't be bothered. We suppose "mysterious" (what she intended) and "strange" (what's there) are close enough.Getty Images
Liam HemsworthDuring his time with Miley Cyrus he decided to get a matching tattoo of Teddy Roosevelt's "Citizenship in a Republic" speech, the lead-in to what she has inked on her arm. And while the script is nice, he (or the tattoo artist) missed an important word: the second "he." Whoops!Getty Images, Instagram
Ashley GreeneThis is an easy fix. It would literally take all of five minutes, from finding the perfect apostrophe to match the current font, drawing it on her skin, then getting it tattooed on there. How has this not been rectified?Getty Images, Twitter
Nicole RichieNicole's "virgin" tattoo isn't misspelled, but the intended meaning behind it is all kinds of wrong. It was supposed to be an astrological tribute to her sign, Virgo, and the sign is a virgin. Now, two kids later, it just looks bizarre.Getty Images
CoolioCoolio paid homage to the Insane Clown Posse in one of his tats, but his "Jugalo Cool" ink was obviously missing the second "g." The rapper claims the misspelling was intentional, but that's obviously just bigg talk.Getty Images, Twitter
Christina AguileraXtina's attempt at getting then-husband Jordan Bratman's initials scrolled in Hebrew on her arm went awry when the characters actually ended up reading as "12." Now that they're divorced, the permanent mistake actually worked in her favour.Getty Images
Justin TimberlakeJT got all fake-tatted up for his role as a hardcore drug dealer in the movie 'Alpha Dog.' But the Chinese symbols for "ice skating" on his bicep don't seem very bad-ass now, do they?Getty Images, Universal
