Growing up in Canada is quite an experience, eh?

The bone-chilling winters, the strange government-funded commercials, and, of course, Kraft Dinner. They’re all childhood staples we hold near and dear to our hearts. That’s why, when Canadians started sharing their nostalgic memories under the hashtag #GrowingUpCanadian, we couldn’t help but round them up for a nice trip down memory lane. These are 17 struggles nobody else in the world will quite be able to relate to:

1. You were pretty traumatized by this robot

2. Every adult had the same go-to food for kids

3. The arctic actually ruined colouring for you

But this is where you got your education anyway

4. Trick or treating on Halloween was always…uncomfortable

5. Nothing you learned in French class actually stuck

6. Sometimes recess was something you’d actually dread…a lot

7. Knowing Canadian TV was inferior to America’s

8. But still knowing our country was better than America

9. Those disappointing Roll Up the Rim seasons

10. As soon as you travel abroad, you realize Toronto really is the centre of the universe

11. And then having to debunk all of those silly Canadian myths once you get there

12. Having stacks on stacks on stacks…and still being broke

13. This guy hogging up your TV screen

14. Realizing nobody quite understands your passion for hockey

15. …Or maple syrup

16. No, it’s not an “electricity” bill

17. And what do you mean by “soda”?!

18. Restroom?!

19. That time the Littlest Hobo actually felt like a member of your own family

20. Speaking of dogs, is it animal day yet??

21. The moment when you said sorry to someone who was clearly in the wrong for the first time
