The nominations for the 2014 MTV VMAs have officially been announced and it shouldn’t surprise anyone that pop music’s reigning first lady Beyoncé is in line to take home up to 8 shiny new awards for Blue Ivy Carter to play with.
After the incredible year that she has had so far, there’s no doubt that Queen B is very much deserving of all the VMAs that she is nominated for, and then some. And if for some reason you disagree, let us just begin to scratch the surface, shall we?
Just before Christmas and the new year, Bey dropped her fourth album, Beyoncé, out of nowhere and brought some serious unexpected holiday joy to the masses. The album was fantastic and it has sold over 2 million copies so far. It is also the fastest selling album in iTunes history.
Bored with traditional album releases, Bey released the first ever visual album. 14 songs accompanied by 17 incredibly shot music videos all released on iTunes without notice. VMA presenters, prepare to meet Beyoncé.
The tour to end all tours
Announced via Facebook, Bey and Jay-Z‘s co-headlining tour is shaping up to be one of the biggest of all time. And what did you expect? It’s Beyoncé.
Patience of a saint
A saint I tell ya! In 2014 Bey has kept her cool amidst the well publicized elevator fight between her sister Solange and her husband Jay-Z, as well as sleazy rumours internet rumours of Jay-Z’s infidelity and being publicly ripped apart for setting “a bad example” by notorious FOX News jerk-personality Bill O’Reilly. Through all that she has remained the classiest woman in music.
Of course Beyoncé delivered the best performance of the night at this year’s Grammy Awards with her rendition of Drunk in Love featuring a cameo by husband Jay-Z. The sexy performance opened the show and remained the highlight of the evening for the entire broadcast and possibly the entire history of the awards.
You can watch Beyoncé win her much deserved slew of MTV VMA hardware live from The Forum in Inglewood, California on Sunday, August 24 at 9 p.m. ET. If you’re interested in the other nominees (oh, were there other nominees?) visit MTV.ca for the full list.
