Thanks to the official twitter of the British Monarchy, the world now knows that Queen Elizabeth is indeed a Game of Thrones fan just like us. Or at least we can assume she is.
In a tweet posted yesterday by the Monarchy, we found out that when Liz makes her state visit to Northern Ireland later this month she will be visiting the Games of Thrones set for a tour (yes, that’s where The Wall is). If she wasn’t a fan, why would she bother?
So with our discovery of the Queen’s assumed GoT love, it’s hardly a stretch to imagine Liz as a character on the show. She would fit right in! Here are 5 reasons why Queen Elizabeth would be a great character on Game of Thrones:
5. The Look
Queen Elizabeth is about as regal looking as it gets. From stuffy royal clothing, to the accent, to her stoic demeanour, Liz more than looks the part. Although she is most likely quite a lovely, nice little British lady, she could easily pull off the mean Queen, the indomitable matriarch of a Westeros family monarchy.
4. The Controversial Family
Much like the Starks or the Lannisters, Queen Elizabeth’s royal family is constantly the subject of controversy. While not to do with incest, bastard sons or general treachery, The House of Windsor always lands in the tabloids due to various members’ relationships, divorces or questionable antics (ahem, Harry). They would fit right in as a GoT family.
3. The Castle
Any strong family on Game of Thrones needs a sweet castle to reside and protect. The Queen has that covered with Buckingham Palace. The Palace looks old and regal, but is still state of the art. A great setting for the show, right?
2. The Good Looking Family
Like the majority of the characters on GoT, the House of Windsor is a handsome lot. Grandsons William and Harry, Kate Middleton, the late and beloved daughter-in-law Princess Diana. A good looking bunch who would fit in quite well with the likes of Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen.
1. The Money and Power
The Queen is filthy rich and still pulls a ton of rank in Britain. She is a powerful lady in the eyes of many. She would be a great contender to battle it out with the different houses on GoT for ultimate domination. We’d put our money on her.
It’s happened! Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom, Canada and Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith has taken the Iron Throne. Or, well, she looked at it anyway. Closely. And clearly she’s in a war of words with Cersei to determine the rites of ascension. Or not. But we can dream.
