Love is patient, love is kind, and sometimes love ends up with under-the-radar nuptials.

The past year was filled with big, beautiful celebrity weddings (we’re looking at you, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner) but there were a handful of celebrities who managed to sneak in some super low-key, undercover nuptials. That’s right, it’s totally possible for a famous person to get married without recreating the royal wedding somewhere in Malibu - though, we love a good over-the-top bash just as well. Here’s a look at some of the big days we didn’t see - our favourite secret celebrity weddings of 2019.
1. Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn
Back in January 2018, Ed Sheeran announced his engagement to longtime love Cherry Seaborn with a super cute post on Instagram. While no wedding date or pictures have been shared, Sheeran recently confirmed that the couple are, in fact, legally married. While the private ceremony reportedly took place in January 2019, the news wasn’t confirmed until the summer. Way to keep a secret, Ed!
Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating love and this year, Miranda Lambert did just that. The country star (and former Mrs. Blake Shelton) chose February 14th to announce that she’d secretly married New York police officer Brendan McLoughlin. Pictured outdoors in a lacy, white wedding dress, Lambert shared, “I met the love of my life. And we got hitched! My heart is full.”
Lena Waithe dropped some big news while chatting with John Legend on Ellen back in November. Legend, who was filling in as a guest host on the popular daytime show, said, “I’m going to call you ‘wife’ now, because you just got married!” Waithe happily confirmed the news, noting that she and Mayo were married in a San Francisco courthouse in front of a bust of LBGT activist Harvey Milk. Congratulations to the newlyweds!
4. Heidi Klum and Tom Kaulitz
In August, supermodel Heidi Klum posted a gorgeous photo from her wedding to musician Tom Kaulitz - but that wasn’t the first time the pair walked down the aisle together. Klum and Kaulitz had actually tied the knot back in a secret ceremony back in February, after less than a year of dating. Their big summer wedding in Capri was a decidedly less secretive affair, with Klum sharing photos and videos of the romantic Italian adventure.
After a decade of living as husband and wife and two beautiful kids, actors Hilarie Burton and Jeffrey Dean Morgan made their love official with a formal ceremony on October 5th, 2019. The duo later revealed that Jensen Ackles was their pastor, with Burton jokingly urging the Supernatural star to “start a megachurch, or a cult. We’ll join either.” Normally a very private couple, Burton was uncharacteristically open about the wedding and has since posted a series of stunning black and white wedding photos on her Instagram page.
Pacey is single no more! It was just recently confirmed that the Dawson’s Creek alum and his partner, British model-actress Jodie Turner-Smith, were secretly married in recent weeks. The duo just made their official red carpet debut in November but have been quietly dating since last year. In addition to several cute posts on social media, the happy couple was spotted getting a marriage licence back in August. Next up for the genetically gifted pair? A baby! Multiple sources have confirmed that Turner-Smith is expecting the couple’s first child. Congratulations all around![video_embed id='1829915']Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson's red carpet debut[/video_embed]
7. Hilary Duff and Matthew Koma
This is what dreams are made of! The couple share a daughter, Banks, and have been engaged for about 8 months but no one expected for them to say "I Do" in the backyard of their L.A. home a mere four days before Christmas in a "small and low-key" ceremony according to People. Hilary Duff wore a gorgeous open-back Jenny Packham gown and both her and her music producer husband Matthew Koma shared plenty of pics on their Instagram pages so it's almost like we were all invited. Almost.
