It’s a tough call: John Lennon or Paul McCartney?

Scared Goose Productions pitted the two songwriting heavyweights against each other and asked 550 celebrities who they preferred. It took 10 years to complete the interviews, but they finally have their results.

But first, a little background: Lennon and McCartney were known to have composed many of their songs together, and they shared writing credits for all Beatles tunes. This shared attribution is what began a rivalry that would last upwards of 50 years among fans. But now the experts have weighed in–from Katy Perry to Robert DeNiro–and here’s how they voted:

Lennon: 282
McCartney: 196
No answer: 50
Ringo Starr: 4
George Harrison: 15
Jimi Hendrix: 1
Lou Reed: 1
Keith Richards: 1
Oasis: 1

It’s safe to say that the majority of artists stand firmly in the Lennon camp, but you can still make your voice heard below. Check back to see the results, but until then, have a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Let’s hope it’s a good one, without any fear.
