Tina Fey and Amy Poehler slay every time they host an awards show, but there’s another MC on the come-up and they call him Neil Patrick Harris. When the 87th Academy Awards air on February 22, the song and dance man will finally take his enviable talents to the big leagues (he’s already hosted the Tonys four times and the Emmys twice). If there’s any doubt about his ability to pull it off, his naysayers need only look to his proven track record at killing it.

2009 Emmy Awards

Even more important than being a humble winner is being a hilarious loser. During his inaugural Emmy hosting gig, NPH lost out to John Cryer in the Supporting Actor category. He then graciously took it upon himself to double-check that the victor did indeed deserve the spoils.

2011 Tony Awards

Ever the social commentator, he let America (and the world) know that the Tonys were an inclusive event through the rousing number, It’s Not Just for Gays Anymore. “It’s no longer only for dudes who like dudes,” he sang. Preach, Neil. Preach.

2011 Tony Awards

He can hold his own with the big names. Check out his sing-off with Hugh Jackman (the two looked like they’ve been dancing together in the chorus line for years).

2011 Tony Awards

He’s a thriller on the mic. Just when you’re about to nod off or call it a night, he breaks out a rhyming show recap during the end credits.

2012 Tony Awards

The man will literally hang upside down like Spiderman to get a laugh. His physical comedy skills could come in handy with the Oscars gig (can’t wait to see how he could potentially interpret Birdman).

2013 Emmy Awards

This guy never rests on his laurels! Here he is nonchalantly tossing in a big musical number in the middle of the 2013 Emmys. “At this point a host could choose just to coast, to that I say thank you, but no.”

2013 Tony Awards

Did you know that NPH practices magic? The 2008 World Magic Awards host brought his tricks to the Tonys when he disappeared during a big musical number only to appear moments later at the back of the venue. Plus, he got Mike Tyson to do a soft shoe routine—now that’s magical.

2014 Tony Awards

In homage to the stage production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, he dressed up in drag and treated Orlando Bloom’s face to the gyrating funk in his junk. Also notable: Sam Jackson’s glasses smeared in NPH sauce and Sting receiving the lap dance of a lifetime.

Bonus: 2010 Academy Awards

Even when he’s not technically the host, he’s still steals the show! Although Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin were the MCs for the evening, NPH stole everyone’s hearts with the opening song and dance routine at the 2010 Oscars.

Think NPH will kill it at the Oscars? Watch the 87th Academy Awards on Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. (ET) on CTV to find out.
