While major fashion houses like Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana and Prada tend to dominate red carpets, there are countless lesser-known brands that have garnered the attention of A-listers—and even royals. In many cases, these labels are run by a one-person army and the items are created in small batches. But all it takes is one celebrity to wear something for it to get splashed all over our social feeds and make it fly off the shelves (the Markle effect is real!). Below, eight celebrity-approved labels that are still under-the-radar—but not for long.

1. PRISCAVera

PRISCAVera will transport you right back to 1997 with its ruched mini dresses, flame prints and slinky metallic neon separates. Bella Hadid and Rihanna have been spotted wearing this NYC-based brand and it’s only a matter of time until we see others following suit.

2. Brother Vellies

Creative director and founder, Aurora James created Brother Vellies as a way to introduce the masses to traditional African footwear, while creating jobs for locals. Though James is Canadian, the stand-out shoes are designed in Brooklyn and handcrafted in Africa. Styles have been worn by the Knowles sisters, Lupita Nyong’o and Zendaya, among others. Most recently, Nicki Minaj wore a pair of custom lace-up heels by the designer to the Met Gala.

3. Marine Serre

If you’ve been seeing a half-moon print all over Instagram, it’s likely because of Marine Serre. The 27-year-old French designer interned at some of the biggest fashion houses like Alexander McQueen and Dior before launching her own line. Her designs, many which feature her signature half-moon motif, meld sportswear and couture. Beyoncé, Dua Lipa and Chloe Sevigny are all fans.

4. Mandkhai

Designed in London and crafted in Mongolia, Mandkhai is a sustainable knitwear brand that is beloved among celebs. They specialize in beautifully tailored suiting and cozy cashmere sweaters that Hollywood’s It-girls like Gigi Hadid, Priyanka Chopra and Hailey Beiber have all been spotted wearing.

5. Soia & Kyo

Canadian brand Soia & Kyo has a knack for making outerwear that’s as stylish as it is practical. From structured trenches to leather motos to wool wrap coats, we’re convinced that there is a coat—or three—for everyone from this brand. We’re not the only ones who love Soia & Kyo. The brand has a growing list of celebrity clientele, which includes Taylor Swift, Reese Witherspoon, Yara Shahidi and Meghan Markle to name a few.

6. Khyeli

This emerging London-based brand, which was founded by self-taught Emirati designer Ahmed Alkhyeli, is one to watch. Luxurious dresses made of tulle and cascading fabrics are equal parts feminine and cool and Khyeli is destined to become a red carpet regular. A-listers who are ahead of the game include Lady Gaga (who wore two different designs in one week), Lili Reinhart and Kylie Jenner.

7. Nonie

Another home-grown label that’s making waves in the fashion industry is Nonie. Hailing from Calgary, designer Nina Kharey launched her line of ethically made womenswear in 2008. Work-appropriate separates with a focus on tailoring are their claim to fame, not to mention the instantly-iconic sleeveless pink trench that Meghan Markle wore in July 2018.

8. L’Afshar

If you’re wondering what the must-have handbag of 2019 is going to be, look no further. Dubai-based accessories brand, L’Afshar, creates structural handbags made of lucite, marble and leather that have made their way onto the arms of notables including Céline Dion, Jessica Alba and the Kardashians. Kylie alone is a big supporter and has been spotted with several L’Afshar styles.
