Leave it to Japan to dream up a deliciously unique spread. One of the country’s leading dairy companies, Megmilk Snow Brand, has just announced a drool-inducing new product called coffee butter. It’s exactly what you’re imagining: butter that tastes like a freshly brewed cup of our favourite caffeinated beverage.

The coffee butter, called Snow Brand Coffee Soft, hits shelves across Japan on March 1, and will commemorate the company’s anniversary. Happy birthday, Megmilk! We’ll have a Double Double spread over an old-fashioned doughnut, please.

According to Rock News 24, the special spread is a homage to one of the company’s longest-selling products, Snow Brand Coffee, which has been giving Japanese consumers a morning jolt for the last 55 years.

The coffee butter reportedly has a caffeine kick like its liquid peer, so we can hardly wait to find out just how strong this stuff really is.

Unfortunately, it’s not available in North America, which is really too bad because we just spent the last 15 minutes thinking about all of the goodies we could spread this stuff on. Plain ol’ white bread, scones, Pop Tarts, cinnamon raisin toast or a chocolate chip muffin. Or, you could put coffee butter INTO your coffee! Woah.

Whether we get to try the butter this year or not, we can only imagine what kind of treats people will start whipping up with this new product.
