In the vast landscape of coming of age movies, few have resonated like Superbad. Though the 2007 film focuses on Michael Cera and Jonah Hill’s Evan and Seth, it was Christopher Mintz-Plasse who stole every scene as the painfully realistic high school dweeb Fogell, who sabotaged his chance to buy a passable fake ID by choosing the name McLovin. Now a 20-year-old man in Iowa has been arrested for using a fake McLovin ID, which is essentially a fake ID of a fake ID. Superbad writer Seth Rogen approves.Daniel Alfredo Burleson, 20, of Des Moines, Iowa was arrested on October 11 after police approached him in a bar and demanded he provide his ID. Burleson eventually left the bar with police and gave them his actual ID, showing that he was underage. According to the Iowa City Press-Citizen, “Police said Burleson then ‘pulled out his wallet and began shuffling through the wallet and police could see [his] fake Hawaii ID with the name 'McLovin DOB 06/03/1981.’” Revealing that he bought the ID on Amazon, police then ran a search on Burleson’s McLovin ID (OMG LOL) and found that it did not turn up any results (stop, we can’t handle this). Burleson now faces multiple charges, including public intoxication, under legal age in a bar, and possession of a fictitious license, which is not at all funny, but we have to commend him for using a McLovin ID. Plus, he’s legal drinking age in Canada, so we feel significantly less inclined to say he should be arrested. Another Canadian who is Team Burleson is Superbad star and co-writer Seth Rogen, who tweeted about the news story. Some writers strive for Oscars. Rogen just wants people to have a good time. Chicka-chicka-yeah. It’s difficult to choose which aspect of this hard-hitting news story we love the most. Rogen’s response? Buying and actually carrying around a McLovin ID as if it could work? The fact that the ID would make 20-year-old Burleson 38? A mugshot that we can only describe as 100 percent McLovin? But the best part may be the reactions to Rogen’s tweet, which are a goldmine for our fellow Superbad lovers. Sorry, McLovers. Well, at least Burleson didn’t try to outrun the cops.
