Last night’s premiere of the 23rd season of Dancing With The Stars was less Marcia, Marcia, Marcia and more Maureen, Maureen, Maureen.
Competing this season for the Ballroom trophy is The Brady Bunch star Maureen McCormick, who famously played Marcia Brady on the 1960s sitcom. Paired with professional hottie dancer Artem Chigvintsev, Maureen performed the Viennese Waltz to Aretha Franklin’s “You Make Me Feel,” receiving a score of 22 out of 40.
The actor was emotional during her post-performance interview with host Tom Bergeron, overwhelmed with being on the famous stage. Even more overwhelming? A standing ovation from surprise guest Florence Henderson, who of course played McCormick’s mother Carol Brady.
The two actors, who seem to have struck a deal with Father Time, looked stunning and sincere as they embraced, with a teary Henderson congratulating her TV daughter and telling McCormick she was proud of her. An obviously moved McCormick returned to the stage to say “I love her…This is such a dream. It doesn’t feel real. It’s just so amazing to be on this set. I’m honestly just so thrilled that I’m here and being given this opportunity.” No, you stop crying.
The 82 year-old Henderson knows just how nerve-wracking it is to compete on Dancing With The Stars, making it all the way to the fifth spot of Season 11 of the reality show in 2010.
Like most seasons of DWTS, seeing who shows up in the audience is often more exciting than the actual performances and last night’s premiere was no different. Could this season include more reunions for The Brady Bunch cast? We hope so, but right now it’s just a hunch.
