We thought we were watching Love Island (Monday to Friday at 8 p.m. ET on CTV) to see people get bronzed in the sun and fall in love, but we didn’t expect the show was going to break our hearts. In a shocking recoupling on Wednesday night, Weston chose Katrina and Yamen picked Christen—decisions that sent both Mallory and Alana home. We’d ask someone to hand us a tissue, but no one in the villa has an outfit with enough extra fabric for pockets.
The episode kicked off with Alana and Mallory spending the night together in The Hideaway while their men snuggled up with the new girls. Weston and Katrina had an instant connection, with Katrina telling Weston she likes to be the big spoon, a statement he said was “The best thing anyone has ever told me in my whole life.” Cowboys are sensitive, y’all.
Yamen and Christen also got their spoon on, leaving the two new couples looking as comfortable as our OGs. Not so comfortable? Mallory and Alana, with Alana fully admitting that she was “mad as hell.” Same, girl. Christen tried to smooth things over with Yamen’s former beau, but Alana wasn’t interested, advising Christen to not give her a hug. “I’m being real with you,” said Alana. “Don’t do that.” #NoNewFriends #NoFakeHugs
Before the recoupling, Mallory, Katrina, Christen and Alana got the chance to fight for their boys along with the rest of the girls in a comic book-inspired challenge that probably seemed like a better idea in theory than practice. In practice, we cringed so hard that our superhero name should be the Cape-In-Front-of-Our-Faces Crusader. Also, why didn’t we see Elizabeth rescue Zac? There’s lost footage that we want a peek at.
For her brave efforts that included performing the worm, ripping the head off paper bad guys, and performing not one, but two cartwheels, Alana was voted the winner and scored… nothing. What the heck? We hope she took her personalized water bottle when she left.
The recoupling led to some tense decision-making for Weston and Yamen, with both men opting to change things up and pick the new girls. What the men didn’t know was that their decisions would result in both Mallory and Alana being sent home, with Alana immediately slamming down her phone and storming off to begin packing. It’s not the first elimination we’ve seen on the island, but unlike when Michael was booted, we knew Alana really had feelings for Yamen. We were shipping them so hard! Sending all our love vibes Alana’s way.
Mallory’s face when Yamen picked Christen was all of us, and Caro’s tears showed just how close the Islanders have become in a short period of time. Mix in Alana’s tears and Lily Allen’s cover of “Somewhere Only We Know” and Love Island is officially in contention for next year’s Emmy race. Never in the history of television has a show with so many bikinis made us feel so many things.
Alana and Yamen’s final moments together showed how much the pair really did care for one another, with Yamen telling Alana, “There’s someone that’s going to love the hell out of you.” Though she’s young, Alana has continued to show maturity throughout her time in the villa, telling Yamen, “I’ll never feel bad for genuinely caring about somebody. I’ll never feel bad for that even when it sucks sometimes.” Yup. Love stinks.
We’re not trying to hate on Christen and Yamen, but the pair kissing while Alana was still in the villa felt harsh.
THE NEW GUY
The episode ended with Kyra being invited on a date with a mystery guy named Winston and we are so here for it. Cashel telling Kyra one minute that he’s interested in Christen and the next minute telling her that she needs to open up more with him is the kind of behaviour that will make your friends hate your dude. Kyra, get you a man who isn’t keeping his options open.
THAT AWKWARD MOMENT
We have veeery mixed feelings on Alana kissing Yamen goodbye in front of Christen. On the one hand: so, so awkward. On the other: totally savage and we are here for it. Conclusion: Perfect final move. Yas kween.

WHO WE’RE SHIPPING
We’re sorry to see Mallory go, but we are also kinda loving Weston and Katrina. Now that’s a recoupling we can get behind.
Having two Islanders named Winston and Weston is going to get w-eally confusing.
