At some point in your life you’ve probably had a gym membership. Hey, maybe you even have one (or several) right now. Often, gym memberships give the impression we’re leading a healthy lifestyle, when really we’re shovelling out money for something we hardly ever use. In many cases, people don’t use their gym pass at all.

Thankfully, gym memberships seem to be evolving. In the same way services like Netflix give you access to a number of network TV shows for one price, ClassPass recently launched in Canada with a similar approach to gym memberships. Instead of gaining access to one brand or style of fitness, this à la carte membership offers access to multiple fitness studios across North America. At $99 CDN/month, it’s pretty much the answer to all of your gym membership woes.

Currently available in Toronto and Vancouver, here’s how an à la carte membership like ClassPass can solve your every gym complaint.

PROBLEM: You’re bored of going to the same place.

SOLUTION: With this membership, you can visit a different studio each day if you want. This also gives you the opportunity to explore different areas in your city and see some really cool spaces.

PROBLEM: You’ve tried every class and want something new.

SOLUTION: There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of different classes to choose from with this pass. Even if all you like to do is yoga, there are like 10 different studios that offer hatha, ashtanga, hot yoga, meditation and more. Think about how (literally) flexible you could become!

PROBLEM: When you’re paying for a gym membership, it’s too expensive to try out smaller, boutique studios.

SOLUTION: ClassPass is all about the little guys. This is a membership for people who hate big, corporate gyms. So long, creepy leering businessman in the corner!

PROBLEM: Niche workouts aren’t on offer.

SOLUTION: Smaller gyms tend to be more specialized and offer things that you might not get from a big box gym. In Toronto alone, you’ll have access to kickboxing, reformer exercises, pole-dancing and stand-up paddleboard all under the same membership.

PROBLEM: Awkward encounters with exes.

SOLUTION: Since you’re not going to the same place every day you won’t have to worry about running into the same people. And if you see someone you “used to know,” then you don’t have to go back there.

PROBLEM: The feeling of being locked into what seems like an eternal membership.

SOLUTION: The price is the same for everyone, and you can pay month to month with no worry of losing any super-exclusive, you-can’t-even-remember-how-you-landed-it rate.

PROBLEM: Inconvenient locations.

SOLUTION: With studios scattered all over the city and new locations being added all the time, you should be able to pick up a class no matter where you live/work/frequent.

PROBLEM: Needing to arrive super early to line up for classes.

SOLUTION: Classes are booked through an app. No lineups, no disappointments. No getting up early for nothing.

PROBLEM: You never go to the gym.

SOLUTION: It’s hard to get motivated when you’re doing the same thing all the time, but with so many options you’re more inclined to want to try them all.

PROBLEM: Your membership goes unused when you’re sick or out of town.

SOLUTION: ClassPass is offered in a bunch of cities across North America, including New York, Miami, Chicago, L.A. and London, England. If you don’t think you’ll hit the gym while you’re away, put the pass on hold or stick to paying month to month so you don’t have to worry about missing out.
