Let’s face it: 2020 has been a toughie. With self-isolation, physical distancing, a tanking economy, and friends and loved ones falling ill, we could all use just a little joy and charm in our lives to make us smile. Luckily, this year pop superstar Harry Styles has been to the rescue. He has all made us ride that “Watermelon Sugar” high by constantly making us sing, dance, laugh, and realize the precious value of being true to ourselves. Find you a man who can do both.

Because Harry is a one-of-a-kind and he’s not afraid to think outside the box, push boundaries, or laugh in the face of taboos, all of that allows us to do the same. His rule-breaking is now the rulebook and there is no choice but to stan.

He’s got some style, that Styles. We love that about him and we wouldn’t have gotten through this hell-scape of a year without him. We couldn’t put a cherry on the top of 2020 without ranking the most iconic Harry Styles moments of 2020.

1. His Vogue cover, which broke all of Vogue’s records

Vogue made history by making Harry the first male cover star in 128 years, and by wearing a dress at that. The man loves “sprinkling sexual ambiguity” as he calls it on everything he does, and this is a direct reflection of the ways our society is shifting and learning that gender expression is truly performative and an expression. According to him, he doesn’t rock an amazing frock or a dangly pair of earrings along with a fire cardigan or manly beard to look one way or the other. Simply put, he says it’s what tickles his fancy, and we dig that about him. “I want things to look a certain way,” he once said. “Not because it makes me look gay, or it makes me look straight, or it makes me look bisexual, but because I think it looks cool.”

Not only was that Vogue cover cool, it made us all realize that we should all be so lucky Harry doesn’t come steal ya gurl and ya man at the same time. Love him in a dress or hate him in a dress, you can’t deny his photos didn’t accidentally turn you on.

This 2020 moment was made even more iconic when Jimmy Fallon got in on the hype and parodied Harry’s 73 questions with Vogue.

2. His participation in that viral Gucci ad campaign

In a phone conversation performed mostly in Italian, Harry single handedly brings back the Motorola Razr flip phone that we all had in 2007, and sports some jorts. Jorts! The internet lost its dang mind. He doesn’t have a huge part to play in the Gucci campaign (although he has been featured in their adverts many a time in the past), but his cameo was enough to make the internet swear that Harry Styles invented pink.

3. He reconnected with his former flame Kendall Jenner for a truly gross game of truth or dare

After celebrity couples break up, it’s rare to see them out and about, staying friends, and collab’ing together. Harry proved not only can you be friends with an ex, you can still have a laugh and enjoy their company. Case in point: when he was guest-hosting The Late Late Show with James Corden, he invited former flame Kendall Jenner on the show to play a truly gross (and hilarious) game of Spill Your Guts, or Fill Your Guts.

Spinning the lazy susan of torture, both of them had to either answer probing questions or eat things like bird saliva, cow testicles, and other sickening assortments.

We nearly died when Kendall eyed him with a glimmer and said, “I’m dying to know this. Which songs on your last album were about me?” Gasping with embarrassment, Harry immediately clasped his hand over his eyes. We’ll take that to mean all of them, Mr. Styles.

4. When he covered Lizzo and it led to an actual duet with Lizzo

Doing a live set in the BBC Radio 1 live lounge, he chose to cover our queen Lizzo’s mega-hit "Juice" and he gave it his own funky spin. Heard you say he’s not the baddest b***h, you lie!

His interpretation was fun and unique, while still staying true to our “Good As Hell” songstress and rapper. So naturally, of course this had to happen.

During one of her concerts earlier this year in Miami, right before launching into “Juice,” she stops the show and brings him out as a surprise performer.

He came out looking like a snack like David Bowie and even mastered her fire dance moves. The two of them bounced off each other like they’ve been besties for years, and their chemistry positively sizzled. We love this duet and this performance. It’s just a joy and a delight.

5. The One Direction anniversary

July marked the 10 year anniversary of 1D, and even though Harry, Niall, Louis, Liam and Ringo Zayn haven’t performed together in five years, they decided to give the fans a bit of a treat to mark the occasion. On YouTube they posted an emotional compilation video of the best highlights of their decade, and Harry wrote to his former bandmates, “I love you so much, and I couldn’t be prouder of everything we achieved together. Here’s to ten. H.”

Together they even created a website dedicated to a 1D decade for fans to connect and enjoy memories and music together.

6. The high from the “Watermelon Sugar” music video

The video is dedicated to touching... this is pre-COVID mind you. But considering how badly half of the planet wants to be touched by Harry, and each other, the release of this music video couldn’t have arrived at a better time.

7. The “Golden” video that offered us a glimpse of adventure

When he dropped the new “Golden” music video in October, during a time when we still couldn’t believe we were dealing with quarantine and self-isolation for this long, it was pure escapism. We couldn’t have needed this more. Harry spends most of the video in the Italian Amalfi Coast running with his shirt open through lush Italian vistas. He also swims, and rides around in a convertible with the top down. Remember adventuring in warm climates and cultures? Yeah us neither. Take us there, Harry!

8. When he hung out at a fan’s house and fed her fish

When Harry's car broke down, it occurred just outside the house of a mega-stan. She wasn’t home at the time, but while he waited inside with her pops, he autographed her merch, and left her a handwritten note thanking her for the support.

“Theadora, my car broke down on your street and your dad’s friend kindly let me wait at your house with a cup of tea. I’m devastated that we missed each other,” he wrote. “Looking forward to meeting you soon. Treat people with kindness. All my love, Harry. P.S. I fed the fish.”

He fed the fish?! Epic housesitter achievement level: UNLOCKED!
