A few days ago, we were wowed by a man who could sculpt wood into food, and now, we’re seeing something just as amazing: a woman who can turn old mattresses into food. Tis the start of an era where people reduce, reuse and recycle waste into food. And even though this incredible street art isn’t edible, it’s still worth gawking at (and trust us when we say that your jaw will drop).
In Paris, French street artist Lor-K is turning old, broken mattresses into food porn, through her “Eat Me” project. Although we’re pretty obsessed with this particular project, Lor-K has also promoted the theme of recycling waste through many other great projects like “Objectified,” where she highlights broken objects’ injuries. One person’s junk truly is another person’s treasure.
Lor-K was inspired to begin the Eat Me project after seeing broken mattresses, which were littering the street.
“Creating food with what we waste–in the end it’s a metaphor about our own cycle of consumption,” she said. “It’s a way to sensitize people about wastefulness.”
We think it’s safe to say that no one would want to throw out these mattresses ever again–at least, no foodie would want to. Check out her masterful creations below to experience a serious desire to recycle.
