We don’t know what to believe. The year-long game of ‘are they or aren’t they?’ being played by Jamie Foxx and Katie Holmes has us so confused. Do they love each other? Do they call one another by adorable pet names? Are they just good friends (or good friends with benefits)?

Yesterday the clouds of confusion finally parted, cleared away by an unlikely celebrity relationship guru: game show model and Real Housewife of Atlanta, Claudia Jordan. Guesting on Theo Von and Matthew Cole‘s comedy podcast Allegedly, Jordan put our doubts to rest in a single soundbite:

“He is very happy with her, so. I like that he seems very happy,” she told her hosts after the subject of her friend Foxx and his dating life surfaced.

Insert the sound of angels singing here. After her dramatic and—let’s just say it—kinda scary separation from Tom Cruise, it was nice to think that Katie might have found someone who puts her happiness ahead of the happiness of some vengeful, intergalactic volcano god. To have the news confirmed by a pal of Foxx’s had us high-fiving those aforementioned singing angels.

But less than a day later, the love bubble burst. Contacted by Entertainment Tonight, Claudia Jordan recanted. Hard. “I have no knowledge of Jamie with Katie at all. I’ve never seen them together, he’s never told me he’s dating her.”

“A lot of times, I get asked questions about celebrities—some I know, some I don’t—a lot of times we just give a safe kind of generic answer,” Jordan explained to ET. “Sorry to not have this bombshell story, but I cannot confirm them.”

Is there a Foxx/Holmes mafia running around Manhattan quashing stories about these two? How much does a service like that cost? More importantly, do we have to let go of the love we have for the love Jamie and Katie may or may not have for each other?

Let’s weigh the evidence: on Tuesday, Claudia Jordan said that Foxx and Holmes are an item. Today she said she “cannot confirm them.” Not confirming something: completely different from denying it, right? Verdict: Jamie and Katie are totally a couple. In our hearts, at the very least.

WATCH: Katie is currently busy filming her new miniseries, The Kennedys, where she had a slight wardrobe malfunction on set.
