Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez are one of the celebrity couples we believe in so deeply, we would need to take a few days off work in the event of a breakup, and it looks like their undeniable love was written in the stars long before we even thought to ship them together (and even before shipping was a thing). Major League Baseball’s Intentional Talk with Chris Rose and Kevin Millar recently unearthed a video from back in 1998 where A-Rod said that his “dream date” would be Jennifer Lopez.

No hesitation. No uncertainty. Just pointblank: “Jennifer Lopez.”

So A-Rod calls JLo his dream date and 20 years later, he’s marrying her? Isn’t that The Secret? You manifest the thing you want just by saying it? In that case, Chris Evans is our dream date. Worth a try, right?

A-Rod re-shared the video on his own Instagram (which is actually just a verified JLo fan account) and captioned it, “I just had a feeling.” JLo commented on the post, “OMG… i love this too much,” and A-Rod responded back, “when you know, you know.”

OMG, stahp it, you guys.

For some context: back in 1998, JLo wasn’t even “Jenny From the Block” yet, was in the middle of her 11-month marriage to actor and producer Ojani Noa and was destined to marry two more times before even meeting A-Rod in 2005 (when her then-husband Marc Anthony threw the first pitch at a Mets-Yankees game). Meanwhile, the baseball star hadn’t even signed with the team he would one day be synonymous with—the New York Yankees—and was still playing for the Seattle Mariners.

Wow, 1998 was a long time ago.

Rumours that the two were dating first started swirling in February 2017 and soon after, they were being snapped together all over the place (including at that year’s Met Gala in May). Since then, they’ve worked hard to blend their families—A-Rod has two girls with ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis and JLo has her twins with Marc Anthony—and the two got engaged in March 2019.

It was 20 years in the making, but boy are they perfect now!
