It’s no secret that weddings are expensive (gasp!) and they just get exponentially more expensive if you want a destination wedding. Not only does it cost more, it means planning from afar, organizing a vacation in addition to the wedding and forcing your guests to travel and pay for the trip. While it’s worth it for a lot of couples—any wedding is going to be stressful and expensive to plan—there’s got to be an alternative that gives you all the vibes of a tropical destination without those complications.
And there totally is.
Aquatopia is a water garden conservatory where you can get married among the tropical foliage without even leaving Canada. The gorgeous greenhouse located in the west end of Ottawa has only been operating for three wedding seasons, so it’s quite the hidden gem — and hidden gems are property and design expert Tommy Smythe’s specialty.
Engaged couple Sarisa and Saeed wanted a wedding that was as unique, inspired and Instagrammable as they are, and they turned to Tommy and Where to I Do? (Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on GustoTV) to find just that. What’s more, Sarisa wanted the venue to mimic everything she loved about their recent trip to Australia while Saeed needed enough room for his must-have evening entertainment — fireworks and an aerialist. Go big or go home, right?
Sarisa and Saeed thought they were going to have to travel five hours to Toronto to find the kind of exciting venue they were looking for, but it’s possible they’ve found everything they need right at home. This tropical paradise looks like the perfect location to say “I do” but the couple isn’t sure if it’s a little too close. Will Sarisa and Saeed tie the knot in Aquatopia, or will one of the other two Toronto-area venues Tommy has up his sleeve win out?
