It’s pretty common for musicians to be aurally assaulted by loutish fans singing along to tunes on stage, but one popular singer recently welcomed a wonderful interruption of sorts.

Irish singer and heartthrob Hozier was performing his famous song “Take Me to Church” in Paris earlier this month, when, unexpectedly, a chorus of about 20 people (standing very close to the stage) started to harmonize and sing along with him.

Surprisingly, they didn’t sound half bad — OK, they sounded pretty freaking amazing and here’s why: Unbeknownst to Hozier, his record label and the rest of the eager audience, Virgin Radio had planned this top secret surprise all along.

Those two dozen people are all part of a choir (duh!), so their melodious voices weaved in with Hozier’s soulful voice beautifully. It was enough to send chills down anyone’s back.

It’s not often you get to hear a singer say this about their performance: “I’ve played that song everywhere and I’ve never heard it like this.” All we have to say is bravo Virgin. Bravo.
