Just like Ewan McGregor tells Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge!, love is a many splendoured thing, love lifts us up where we belong, all you need is love. But for Chinese-Canadian illustrator Andrew Hou, when it came to expressing his feelings for his then-girlfriend Kate, words just didn’t do them justice. So he used art as a way of telling her how he felt.
It started with cute drawings that he would text her, and there were so many that he started a blog series called “HJ-story,” after his wife’s Korean initials. The couple, who married in 2013, are head-over-heels but time hasn’t stopped the illustrations. Andrew continues to draw for Kate every day and his illustrations are touching and realistic and romantic and relatable.
His little pictures of love and happiness speak so loudly. Who needs words when a picture can convey so much more?
