The shampoo aisle at your local pharmacy can be kind of daunting. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with choice. But there’s a new, affordable player in the Canadian market that you might want to pay attention to. Not only are their products vegan and paraben-free, fragranced with the most delicious and ethically-sourced scents, but they’re committed to being as kind to the planet as possible. Let me introduce you to Love, Beauty & Planet — the bath line that’s all about nourished hair, glowing skin and mother earth herself.

Packaging

Not only does the packaging look oh-so-pretty, the bottles are also made from 100 per cent recycled plastic. Although the caps and pumps aren’t quite there yet, the brand is committed to having them made from at least 50 per cent recycled materials by 2020. But the innovation doesn’t stop at the plastic. Even the labels use a special adhesive that makes sure the paper separates cleanly from the bottle during the recycling process. This waste-free contamination process ensures that the entire bottle will be recycled. Toss the whole thing into the recycling bin knowing it won’t end up in a landfill.

Fast rinse technology

Fast rinse conditioner technology was developed in order to provide lightweight, yet nourishing conditioning without weighing your hair down. Most importantly, spending less time rinsing your hair can also make a huge impact on the environment. According to the brand, one person cutting down shower rinse time by just 10 seconds could save 750ml of water (that’s a wine bottle’s worth, if you need to visualize). That means, if even just 35 people were to cut down their rinsing by 10 seconds, it would save enough water to provide eight people with drinking water for the entire year.

Ethically sourced oils and extracts

All of the scents, from rose to sandalwood to lavender and mimosa is sourced ethically from a fragrance partner committed to programs that enhance the livelihoods of the farmers and communities that grow them.

Goals for an even more sustainable future

On top of all that, Love, Beauty & Planet aims to constantly improve their practices. Their first set of 2020 goals include making sure all their ingredients will be from certified sustainable sources, ensuring their shampoos (and not only conditioners) are fast rinsing, reducing their carbon footprint by 20 per cent, and coming up with at least three new innovations.

The goods

Now that you know the ethos behind the brand, what about products? There are six lines that are all beautifully scented, each targeting a specific hair concern. Coconut oil and ylang ylang for damaged hair; murumuru butter and rose oil for colour treated hair; shea butter & sandalwood to combat dryness; argan oil & lavender for to stop frizz; coconut water & mimosa flower for volume, and tea tree oil & vetiver for purifying.
