If you watch This Is Us (which you do, of course), then you’ve heard Mandy Moore sing quite a bit. And maybe playing aspiring singer Rebecca on the hit series inspired her to head back to the recording studio because after nearly a decade since the release of her last album of original music, the actress is ready to become an actress-singer once again. That’s right, Mandy is preparing her musical comeback IRL.
In the brief clip, Moore can be heard crooning “don’t underestimate a fool in love” in what may or may not be a duet. It’s bluesy and jazzy and beautiful, and she’s clearly showing that she’s all grown up.
Aside from her singing on This Is Us, we also heard her epic voice taking on Rapunzel in Disney’s animated musical Tangled back in 2010, proving she still had the gift.
Now, in case Mandy’s singing career was before your time, let us enlighten you. Moore was a teenager when she dropped her debut album So Real in 1999 and released hits like the aforementioned “Candy,” “I Wanna Be With You” and “In My Pocket.” But it was a busy time with similar acts like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Jessica Simpson also dominating the airwaves. She stuck it out over the next 10 years, as she moved from pop to dance to folk, with her last album being 2009’s Amanda Leigh — all while balancing her acting career.
Moore’s a little older, a little wiser, and has gone through a lot more life, which will only flesh out her new music that much more. Until her new album drops, we’ll just have to hope we hear more of Mandy’s beautiful voice on Season 3 of everyone’s favourite show. For now, though, we’ll just leave this here in case you need something sweet to tide you over for the rest of the day.
