Congratulations are in order for Alanis Morissette and husband Mario “Souleye” Treadway, who welcomed their third child into the world. The baby boy arrived on Thursday, August 8, but he made his Instagram debut on Monday.

“He’s here,” the Canadian singer captioned her post. “Winter Mercy Morissette-Treadway,” adding the beautiful hashtag “#mywholelifeidreamedoflovingyouthree.” Winter joins big brother Ever, 8, and big sis, Onyx, 2. It was in March that Alanis first announced the pregnancy in a glorious post that not only showed her baby bump but also let us know to expect new music from her as she sang into a microphone with headphones on. “So much NEWness,” she wrote at the time.

In an interview with Self in June, Alanis spoke about being pregnant at 45 and preparing for postpartum depression as she experienced it with her first two children. Her goal with baby no. 3 was to get ahead of the PPD and tell her friends and family what to expect. “Not singularly relying on myself to diagnose myself is key,” she said. “Because the first time around I waited.” This time around, she gave her people a heads-up. “I want you to not necessarily go by the words I’m saying and as best as I can, I’ll try to be honest, but I can’t personally rely on the degree of honesty if I reference the last two experiences,” she recalled to Self. “I snowed a lot of them as I was snowing myself [the last two times].” Seems simple, sure, but it was a pretty brilliant plan, educating those who are nearest and dearest to her to watch for signs because she might not be in the right state of mind to ask for help or support if and when it does hit.

Morissette has always wanted three kids and the admitted planner and over-preparer did everything she could to make it come to fruition, especially given how the journey to motherhood hasn’t been easy.

“Between Ever and Onyx there were some false starts,” she said. “I always wanted to have three kids, and then I’ve had some challenges and some miscarriages so I just didn’t think it was possible.” She added that she felt “so much grief and fear” from her pregnancy losses. “I chased and prayed for pregnancy and learned so much about my body and biochemistry and immunity and gynecology through the process. It was a torturous learning and loss-filled and persevering process.”

Alanis has also been an advocate for breastfeeding, not only the health benefits but also normalizing it happening in public.
