The colours of the night were navy, orange, canary, champagne, red and pink. And for a lot of our favourite stars (Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Lopez to name a few), they nailed it. But holy hell, there were some insane trainwrecks on the red carpet. First of all, Kate Hudson dressed like a mid-2000s Britney Spears for who knows why, and Lady Gaga essentially bathed in loose powder and foundation. There’s a lot of good and bad style, so let’s just get right into it. Here are your Golden Globes Style Winners & Losers:

of
Cate Blanchett
This is going to sound a touch hyperbolic, but Cate Blanchett is the most beautiful woman in the entire world. She is always on point, no matter the occasion. Her skin is flawless, her bone structure is incredible and we'd drink her blood if we were vampires, just saying. Also, she's wearing Givenchy.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesRachel McAdams
Oof. We love Rachel McAdams almost always, but this pattern is very "grandma's upholstery."
Style LoserGetty ImagesAlicia Vikander
Fine, we must begrudgingly admit the It Girl is stunning in Louis Vuitton and we probably can’t compete with her for Michael Fassbender’s attention. FINE. FINE.
Style Winner Getty ImagesLady Gaga
Yeesh. Ease up on that loose powder and foundation, Lady Gaga.
Style LoserGetty ImagesJennifer Lawrence
Aw shucks, J Law, thanks for always going out of your way to please us. Yes, yes, the colour and cut are fab, but that diamond necklace is just the right amount of over-the-top.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesViola Davis
We looooooove How to Get Away with Murder, but we looooooooooove this galaxy-like gown on Ms. Viola Davis. Beautiful.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesSaoirse Ronan
She’s pitch perfect in every film. Her work in Brooklyn earns nothing but raves. Her Yves Saint Laurent Couture by Hedi Slimane makes her look like she’s floating. We’re unable to say anything but “yes, keep doing what you do, Saoirse.”
Style Winner Getty ImagesJennifer Lopez
So, we all agree she must be a witch, right? Like, years are ticking away and she’s showing ZERO SIGNS that she’s acknowledging time whatsoever. Meanwhile, her Giambattista Valli gown isn’t hurting the situation at all. POSE, JLo! Pose as though your very life depended on it!
Style WinnerGetty ImagesBrie Larson
Talk about Room with a View! (GET IT!? She’s the star of Room.) Brie’s Calvin Klein sparkler is almost a little bit Taylor Swift, don’t you think? When in doubt, do as Taylor does.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesRooney Mara
Okay, so Rooney Mara is a stunner in the face, but this dress looks like a half-made dress. Like, it looks like muslin with some details in-the-making. It basically looks like it could be falling apart.
Style LoserGetty ImagesLaverne Cox
The train is giving Laverne more length than she needs, but it doesn't matter because who doesn't want more height? This look is so positively elegant we cannot stand it.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesAmerica Ferrera
Yellow? Yes please. Jenny Packham does more than just okay for America, who’s got a new series hitting a television near you, too (Superstore). Know what we really like about this? Aside from the colour? Her shoulders. The cut makes her shoulders look amazing. Never underestimate the power of an awesome set of shoulders.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesRosie Huntington-Whiteley and Jason Statham
Once upon a time we were covering TIFF and Jason Statham was there and we thought about throwing ourselves at his feet and begging him to make us his love slave. But then, you know, we didn’t and he hooked up with Rosie. Let’s face it, she’s quite flawless. And Jason in his tux? Hot. We’d probably still willingly embarrass ourselves in front of him again.
Style WinnersGetty ImagesJane Fonda
We love the incomparable Jane Fonda, but this is way too frothy. It's like a clam shell ate a cupcake.
Style LoserGetty ImagesKate Hudson
Apparently Kate Hudson decided to channel a mid-2000s Britney Spears for some reason. We liked it on Britney, and hate it now.
Style LoserGetty ImagesJudith Light
A white suit with a silver shoe? We're into it and will try to pull it off ourselves.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesAmy Adams
It might seem like a lot of reds and oranges, but this surprisingly comes together.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesAmy Schumer
We like Amy Schumer. We like her A LOT. We’d have to say we’re just kind of “meh” about her black and white dress. Like Cheese Whiz, we think Amy has personality she should just let shine through. But, it’s not terrible. Plus she’s awesome so …
Style Winner Getty ImagesMaggie Gyllenhaal
So, this dress looks like art deco wrapping paper. We don't like it. Love this sassy attitude, though. The dress, however? Nah.
Style LoserGetty ImagesGina Rodriguez
Well … this is very enormous and navy, isn’t it? Jane the Virgin chose this huge Zac Posen as her Golden Globes look and while it is very navy and it is very huge (as we obviously pointed out earlier), we think she gets away with it.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesBryce Dallas Howard
Jessica Chastain – sorry, we mean Bryce Dallas Howard – is all moody and sparkly and sultry. The Jurassic Park / World/whatever actress is definitely one of the most stylish redheads who isn’t Jessica Chastain in Hollywood right now.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesJamie Alexander
Jamie goes green goddess for the Globes. Aside from being nice from an alliteration point of view, the jade gown looks pretty fantastic on the red carpet. The actress, next to be seen in Thor: Ragnarok, showed up with fiancé Peter Facinelli, who used to be married to 90210’s Jennie Garth, which has nothing to do with anything, except we thought you might want to know. (PS we just realized her gown is by Genny.)
Style WinnerGetty ImagesSophia Bush
Sophia channels her very best Jennifer Aniston and goes for classic black by Narciso Rodriguez. And that’s all there is to say about that.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesJamie Lee Curtis
Navy and black is such a classic evening pairing, and we're loving the execution here. Long sleeves are not only elegant, but the femininity is upped with beautiful, applique silk flowers.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesWiz Khalifa
Well, points for personality. But an undone collar and loose tie and going sockless? It's all just a little "unkempt schoolboy" for our liking.
Style LoserGetty ImagesJoanne Froggatt
She's not quite a lady's maid in this gorgeous, cerulean gown. (She plays a lady's maid on Downton Abbey, if you haven't gotten into the show yet.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesLola Kirke
The mastery of this draping! What a beautiful, Grecian gown on Lola Kirke. We likey.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesTara Lynne Barr
This red taffeta number is a little prom-like, sure, but it's got a nice asymmetrical neckline. Okay, nevermind, we can't get over the junior prom vibe. Sorry. Congrats on your nom, though!
Style LoserGetty ImagesEva Longoria
Here’s a saucy little floral number by Georges Hobeika that almost distracts us from the fact we can’t figure out what Eva does these days aside from getting photographed. Like, for real, why is she here?
Style WinnerGetty ImagesEmmy Rossum
Simple, sure, but totally babely. The best part? That thin hint of sparkle around her neck.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesMaura Tierney
What? Sorry, we fell asleep.
Style LoserGetty ImagesRegina King
This dress looks like a child's take-home art project. Cover in Elmer's glue, then rub in gold confetti. We wanted a dress, not a craft, Regina.
Style LoserGetty ImagesBernadette Peters
We love Bernadette Peters' confidence. This halter-dress makes the eyes go to the arms and shoulders, which are very well represented as you can see.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesMalin Akerman
Classy. Pretty. Glam. Malin’s Reem Acra makes no mistakes.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesNatalie Dormer
The Game of Thrones star is wearing one weird dress. The drooping shoulders are a no. The strange black neck thing is a no. The equally weird black fabric at the waist doesn't make sense. It's too much and not enough.
Style LoserGetty ImagesZendaya
Like a big cupcake bedecked with tiered frosting, Zendaya’s Marchesa gown is totally delicious. Scrumptious, even.
Style Winner Getty ImagesZoe Kazan and Paul Dano
The blunt 'do on Zoe Kazan really works for her. And, hello Paul Dano.
Style WinnersGetty ImagesAmanda Peet
Oh, sorry, but no. This is basically the “fancy” tablecloth your great aunt pulls out every holiday disguised as a dress. We feel like this would smell like mothballs.
Style LoserGetty ImagesJill Solloway and Gaby Hoffmann
We're into pastels and jewel tones, but we're hating this baby puke suit and big ol' royal blue sheet-dress.
Style LosersGetty ImagesLily Tomlin
Purple tarp. Lily Tomlin is wearing a purple tarp.
Style LoserGetty ImagesCatriona Balfe
She's the star of Outlander, and she's absolutely a bombshell in this black lace and chiffon gown.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesDavid Hasselhoff
Are you also creeped out by this? Should we be? We are. Sorry.
Style LoserGetty ImagesLeslie Mann
Leslie is a glamorous Strawberry Shortcake in this frothy, pink Monique Lhuillier. We mean that in the best way possible.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesOlivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis
Damn, does Olivia Wilde look absolutely fine. Jason, however? He looks like a child running a start-up in Silicon Valley.
Style Winner and Style LoserGetty ImagesKirsten Dunst
The way Kirsten Dunst's milky skin is bouncing off this black beauty is simply divine. Love the flash of cleavage, too. In our top five, for sure.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesAmy Landecker
Honestly, this just looks like a long, casual tank dress you could buy at the mall.
Style LoserGetty ImagesTeraji P Henson
Yay! Cookie! Yay! The Queen of Empire swept around in this Stella McCartney dress and was basically the epitome of chic. All hail Cookie.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesHeidi Klum
The amount of time required to make this dense, feather confection must have been a lot. For hours of work alone, this is a win for the designer. And Heidi.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesKate Bosworth
Do you think this would be heavy? We think it looks heavy. The Dolce & Gabbana gown also looks like some sort of magical rose garden. Spectacular.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesEmilia Clarke
No thank you, J. Mendel, no thank you. This is just … weirdness. Goth weirdness.
Style LoserGetty ImagesMelissa McCarthy
Um, no. This looks like a rubberized garbage bag. Not into it.
Style LoserGetty ImagesChanning Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum
What else is there to say about this couple besides, uh, they're hot as hell.
Style WinnersGetty ImagesJulia Louis-Dreyfus
Queen. While the black is a little like a mourning gown, we like it because it's not quite full-on goth. We picture a very wealthy Italian noble wearing it, too.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesKate Winslet
She could've gone way younger than this basic mom dress.
Style LoserGetty ImagesJulianne Moore
All hail the colour of the season: Navy. Cast against Julianne Moore's ginger locks, it's pure perfection.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesAngela Bassett
Orange is Angela's colour. Also? Check out her arms. Pistons. Pythons. Whatever you want to call 'em, this dress showcases them gorgeously.
Style WinnerGetty ImagesKaty Perry
Here's Katy Perry dressed as the liquid you take for nausea, heart burn, indigestion, upset stomach and diarrhea.
Style LoserGetty ImagesCalista Flockhart
We will always have a place in our hearts for Ally McBeal. This teal number is part-renaissance fair, part glam. And we love the way it hangs.
