Chris Evans is not only the perfect human (we are accepting no criticism at this time), he also exists at the very delicate intersection of wholesome classy gentleman and internet guy who really likes memes). It’s a fine line to walk, but this man does it with ease—sometimes helping Betty White up to the People’s Choice Awards stage, sometimes sharing homoerotic Captain America/Iron Man memes.
You really can have it all.
In honour of our favourite Avenger’s (DON’T AT US) 38th birthday, we’re looking back fondly at all the times our personal hero/dream boyfriend fully embraced the meme machine he is (because we certainly do).
When He Acknowledged all the Cap/Tony Shippers
We all know there’s a subset of Avengers fans who have been waiting with bated breath for Steve Rogers and Tony Stark to declare their undying love for one another and fly off into the sunset to a Stark Industries-built tower where they’ll then live together forever with their four adopted rescue dogs. While (SPOILERS) that didn’t happen in the movies, Evans appeased those fans by sharing some fanart on his dear friend Robert Downey Jr.’s birthday. Breathe easy, Stony shippers, you are seen.

When He Confirmed He Really is America’s (and the world’s) Ass
Don’t you love it when high-stakes superhero movies pause the alien butt-kicking for a moment to do some comical fan service? In Avengers: Endgame, that came in the form of both Tony Stark and Cap himself acknowledging that, indeed, Captain America’s rear end should be referred to as “America’s Ass.”
The ref is likely a nod to the excitement around Evans’ Avengers: Infinity War portrait which featured a gratuitous look at that particular feature. In the wake of its release in April 2018, Twitter went wild and more than one entertainment news outlet pointed out its prominence.

When He Discovered Black Twitter
After Chris admitted during a pre-Endgame interview with Thirst Aid Kit that he didn’t know about Black Twitter, an old meme resurfaced where someone edited video of Captain America to give him acrylic nails. Thankfully, he appears to have educated himself on Black Twitter since then and re-tweeted one of the videos.
This gave me a genuine belly laugh. https://t.co/BOmC7JUUdV

When He Addressed His #Image
Chris Evans is such a perfect being, that he could easily come across as a little pretentious or holier than thou. In an effort to stem those jokes before they’re inevitably made at his expense, he’s taken to constantly mocking his younger self who it seems always took himself too seriously. It’s a good way to show he’s not above laughing at himself and means we’re treated to a constant stream of baby Chris pics and savage accompanying commentary.
Here’s a clip from my very first professional acting gig.
Based on my personal style choices, I’m pretty sure the movie was called, ‘Asleep at the Wheel’. Happy Monday, everyone. pic.twitter.com/3vS3FoOvau

When He Explained the Gravity of His “Left Boob Grab”
This is an oldie but a goodie. Fans noticed around the release of Captain America: Winter Soldier that when Evans finds something really funny, he’ll laugh by throwing his head back and putting his right hand on his chest, near his left pec muscle. They dubbed the move, Cap’s “Left Boob Grab” and made many a compilation of him doing it in interviews. In a 2016 interview, he revealed that yes, he knows about the boob grab and no, he doesn’t dish them out lightly.
“It has been brought to my attention and I was kind of surprised—you know, you’re very unaware of it as you’re doing it,” he said. “But yeah, when I find something particularly funny apparently that’s the reaction… You’ve got to earn them; I can’t just give them away.”
When He Leaned Right Into His Love For Disney
We stan a man who will sing “A Whole New World” and “Love is an Open Door” duets with us in the car. Chris Evans is a grade-A Disnerd and it’s the absolute cutest thing. He not only talks about his love for Disney every opportunity he gets, he’s also constantly tweeting about it and literally will not choose a favourite film (same, Chris, same).
When He Couldn’t Cool it on the Patriots
This is another one where Chris’s enthusiasm essentially memed himself. Even casual Chris Evans fans know that the man has an undying passionate love for the New England Patriots. He even got into a Twitter beef with fellow Avenger, Chris Pratt, in 2015 when Evans’ Pats went up against Pratt’s Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl. They settled it in the best way possible, with the loser dressing up as their superhero counterpart and visiting sick kids in the winning city. Has there ever been a more Captain America bet made?

When His Love For His Dog was Greater Than Any Other
Evans’ attachment to his self-admitted “dysfunctional co-dependent” is a constant on his Twitter and the internet loves it! Not only are we blessed with countless glamour shots of Chris and Dodger, we also get TBT pics any time Chris is away from him for an extended period of time. We love!
Now please enjoy a selection of curated Dodger content as you celebrate the momentous day Chris Evans was brought into the world.
