When Alex Ovechkin told fans back in DC that it was time to celebrate, it seems he meant 24 hours a day for an unspecified length of time. The Washington Capitals captain led his team to a Stanley Cup victory over the Las Vegas Golden Knights Thursday night and we don’t believe he’s been sober since. Judging by the amount of beer and champagne he’s chugged from Lord Staney’s cup itself, at least.

This championship win has been a grueling 44 years in the making and Ovechkin has been waiting his entire 13-season career to hoist that cup. From the moment it was presented to him and — to a lesser extent, it seems — the team, he looked right at home with it, hoisting it into the air and kissing it several times.

What followed was a still-ongoing booze-fueled bender where Alex made wild appearance after wild appearance with his new favourite material item. The following is a chronology of all the places Alex Ovechkin has celebrated with the Stanley Cup now that it’s his for the year.
The Capitals won the title in Las Vegas and there probably isn’t a better city to party all night in. Ovechkin filled the cup with pretty much every kind of alcohol imaginable in the first night he took it out. Before the Caps even left Vegas, people were speculating about the condition of Ovechkin’s liver, but he was just getting started.

Has anyone checked on Alex Ovechkin’s liver?

Saturday turned into a big day for Ovechkin and his new best friend. The Great Eight was invited to throw the first pitch at the Washington Nationals’ baseball game against the San Francisco Giants and after initially sending the ball sailing out of the catcher’s reach, his second pitch went in for a strike. Stanley was right by his side.

After two days of straight partying, you might think Alex would have been a little tired and settled down to watch the game. NOPE. Throughout the event, he continued to hoist the cup above his head in celebration. Even when no one was looking. Some fans at the stadium caught Ovechkin’s celebration even though the Jumbotron operator was focused on the actual game.

Alex Ovechkin is just holding the Stanley Cup up in the middle of the inning. They won’t put him on the Jumbotron because the ball is still in play lmfao #ALLCAPS #StanleyCup pic.twitter.com/XRRuUUWrOP

Things only got crazier from there. Ovechkin’s post-game celebration involved fountain frolicking with fans and more drinking from the cup, this time in the form of a keg stand. Is it just us, or is anyone else wondering if he’s washing it at all? That can’t be sanitary. At the very least, it must be sticky.

On to domestic life
Like any relationship, the one between the Stanley Cup and Alex Ovechkin had to settle down at some point. That doesn’t mean life has to get boring though. Through the rest of the weekend, Ovi and the Cup settled into more of a routine, sleeping together (probably Ovechkin’s first time hitting the pillow since Thursday), doing some shopping and even cooking meals together. They were also kind enough to include Ovechkin’s wife Anastasia Shubskaya who is currently expecting the couple’s first child.
Ovi is out here living his best life. 🏆

What’s next for this duo? It seems they might be taking Monday off, but the Capitals’ victory parade is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon so we can only imagine there’s more partying in their future.
Alex Ovechkin and the Stanley Cup is the greatest love story of this century.
