This is a tale of two leading ladies.
Kate Middleton‘s a Duchess, while Amal
Alamuddin Clooney is a world-renowned human rights lawyer (who just happens to be married to some big Hollywood actor you may or may not have heard of). On roles alone, they couldn’t be more different, but it’s their personal style that makes them very much alike.
Earlier in her rise as Duchess, Kate would wear clothes, media would report on said clothes, and then those clothes would sell out. It’s called the “Kate Effect,” and it’s real.
But since Kate has been away from the public eye (thanks, royal baby No. 2!), Amal has unknowingly stepped in, with her clothing being clawed off shelves as fast – if not faster – as the “Kate Effect.”
But, let’s look at the facts. People has reported that the mink fur baseball hat Amal purchased in New York swiftly sold out within a day. Like, let’s look at that one even further, because while Kate’s style is heralded as practical and accessible, what are the chances there will be plenty of occasions for a mink baseball cap? And yet, they’re all gone, suggesting that Amal’s power of influence is strong.
And most recently, Citizens of Humanity has seen a giant increase in jean sales after Amal wore a pair of ripped-up denim to visit her husband (some Hollywood man) in New York City.
It’s early yet, and we’ll have Kate back soon enough. But as it stands, there’s a new muse in town and she’s wearing a fur baseball cap for some reason.
