It was in March of 2015 that now 8-year-old Gabriel Marshall was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour. He underwent surgery to remove it and was left with a sizable scar on the side of his head. His father, Josh Marshall, told ABC News that young Gabriel said he “felt like a monster,” the last thing a parent wants to hear their child say. So, in an effort to boost his son’s self confidence, Josh went above and beyond.

In a show of solidarity, Josh got a replica of his son’s scar tattooed on his own head. He told his son, “If people want to stare at you, then they can stare at both of us.” In that one awesome move, Josh just won the dad game.

But that’s not all they won. The pair also took first place in the St. Baldrick’s Foundation’s #BestBaldDad competition on Father’s Day. And with the news that Gabriel is doing well and the small tumour that does remain hasn’t grown, they have lots of reasons to celebrate.

Inspiring dad that he is, Josh shared the accolades with all the other great fathers out there.

#BestBaldDad? We’re going to go with #BestDadPeriod.
