It looks like Winnipeg just got a little more exciting.

Photographers in the city have started a daring new trend involving steel wool and fire to create images like nothing you’ve ever seen. The technique works by combining rapidly spinning heated metal with a slow shutter speed, creating a dazzling display of streaking lights in the finished product. While the effect is super cool, we wouldn’t recommend trying this at home.

“We’re combining pyrotechnics with photography, and a whole lot of unplanned craziness,” spinner Kyle Schappert told CTV News earlier this year. “There have been some close calls.”
