Do the qualities you look for in federal MPs involve a solid track record on issues like the economy and the environment? Or do you care more about their ability to slay dragons and shoot laser beams from their eyes?
If you fall into the latter camp, Wyatt Scott of Mission, B.C. might just be the candidate for you! His newly-released campaign video shows the 38-year-old small business owner explaining why he’s the right man for one of Canada’s top jobs while riding on the back of a giant Canada goose.
“I’m an independent candidate, and I’m here to fight for Canada!” he yells, before drawing a giant sword and leaping off his airborne steed.
He then lands directly on top of a dragon, stabbing it through the head. Because Canada!
Over the next 30 seconds or so of the video, we see Scott demonstrating some of his finest public-servant skills: fist-bumping aliens, destroying a giant robot with laser beams shot from his eyes and even growing a beard in the span of a second (super important for foreign affairs, we imagine). The wacky ad does have its serious moments though, giving Scott at least a few seconds to list off the real elements of his platform.
“University is too damn expensive,” he says at one point. “Services like health care and social programs should be expanded, not cut … The indigenous people aren’t even protected by their own government.”
And say what you will about the ad, it seems to be resonating with some Canadians.

Wyatt, who’s running in the riding of Mission Matsqui Fraser Canyon, also explains some of the reasoning behind the bizarre ad in the video above.
“Well obviously if we’re running an independent campaign we thought we have to do something a little bit outlandish to get everybody’s attention,” he said. “It seems like we’re definitely getting an overwhelmingly positive response today.”
