The trouble with conventional vehicles these days is that they aren’t exactly suited for Canadian weather.

Sure, they might seem fine in the summer, but as soon as a little snow falls your only go-to solution is winter tires. And we all know how effective those are against six feet of snow.

That’s why we’re thrilled that an Ottawa man souped-up his Smart car to make it certified-Canadian road worthy. Ottawa mechanic Tod Anderson outfitted the vehicle with ATV treads in the rear and custom-made skis in the front, essentially turning his car into a snowmobile.

“Yeah, it was just a thought that came to me and seemed like the right thing to do,” Anderson said.

Sure, Tod. Sure.

The project cost him $7,000 and took a month and a half. For the record, the attachments can be removed and the wheels can go back on–it takes about an hour to make the transformation. Unfortunately, however, it isn’t street legal. But you can see the car in action for yourself in the video above.
