It turns out you don’t need to go to Italy to taste some of the best pizza the world has to offer.

According to Conde Nast, you can get some of the best pies right here at home. The media company just named Edmonton as the eighth best city in the world to grab a slice–that’s right, not Alberta, not Canada–the world. The city managed to squeeze its way in right between legendary pizza cities like Venice and Florence, so it looks like one of Alberta’s best-kept secrets is now officially out of the bag.

And apparently, it’s all thanks to the city’s rejection of hipster culture.

“In an era when artisanal and hipster pizzerias are all the rage, the old-school joints still rule up north in Edmonton,” Conde Nast reports.

The publication points to several locations as examples, such as Tony’s Pizza Palace, Packrat Louie, Rose Bowl and Famoso. When you look at the menu items these places are churning out, it’s no surprise why they made the list:

Wood fired Giardino pizza with mushrooms, tomato, bell peppers, olives and feta – topped with fresh arugula!

If you like meat on pizza – lots of meat – check out our new Diavola pizza, topped with soppressata, spanish chorizo, capicola ham, roasted red peppers and drizzled with our house made chili oil. Yesssss!

Mouth watering yet? We thought so. You can learn more about the four restaurants in the video above.

Now excuse us while we hop on the next flight to Edmonton.
