The biggest night of the year in Canadian music is almost upon us. On Sunday March 15th Hamilton, Ontario will play host to the 2015 Juno Awards for the fifth time. The Canadian sonic celebration is set to ignite live from the home of the Hamilton Bulldogs, the FirstOntario Centre. The excitement kicked off this morning in Toronto at the Danforth Music Hall when this year’s nominees were officially announced at The 2015 Juno Awards Nominations Press Conference.
The best Canadian noisemakers will be honoured for their contributions to our country’s musical landscape over the past 365 days. And as always, it’s a pretty darn eclectic mix of talent battling it out to take home Juno hardware. Leading the nominations pack this year is Toronto pop newcomers MAGIC! The band received five nods including Breakthrough Group of the Year, Pop Album of the Year, Single of the Year, Juno Fan Choice and Songwriter of the Year. Rising Calgary pop star Keisza and Canadian legend Leonard Cohen each received four nominations, and Juno staples Hedley and Nickelback each received three.
This year the celebration will also pay tribute to Canadian rock legends Rush. The iconic band that is celebrating 40 years together will receive the 2015 Allan Waters Humanitarian Award for their four decades of impressive charity work that includes assisting the Toronto Food Bank, United Way and Hurricane Katrina relief.
The show is also gearing up to feature a solid mix of live performances. So far it’s been announced that Hamilton rockers the Arkells as well as Hedley, MAGIC!, Sean Mendes and Keisza will head up a growing list of performers that are set to take the stage.
