Remember when the world was full of nice things like puppies and rainbows and Brangelina was like the one couple that was actually going to make it in Hollywood? Sigh… nothing lasts forever.

Because stunning the public with the announcement of their divorce wasn’t enough, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are continuing to take all of their spats public, including the latest child support battle. And it’s getting kind of ugly.

While there’s bound to be some tension over paying child support for six children (let’s remember that’s more than a basketball team, on the court anyway), it seems incredible that two movie stars with millions to their names aren’t able to figure this out. Especially for the sake of their kids, some of whom have to be seeing what’s going on in the news right about now.

Let’s back up a second though, shall we? Here’s what we’ve been hearing: Jolie’s lawyers filed to speed up this divorce and to formalize a payment system because Pitt reportedly hadn’t been paying “meaningful” child support. And while that may sound like a pretty normal request, given that the separation following the plane incident took place in the fall of 2016, it’s apparently all just a bid to make Brad Pitt look bad. At least that’s the latest word from Pitt’s camp.

According to Pitt’s lawyers, Jolie is “manipulating” the situation by making Brad look like a deadbeat dad who doesn’t want to pay for his kids. The legal team went on to TMZ about how Pitt loaned Jolie eight million dollars so that she and the kids could find a new home, and that he gave her $1.3 million in support on top of that.

So how is Jolie making her ex look bad, exactly? Well, according to the lawyers, it was Pitt who filed for a quickie divorce first, so Jolie bringing this all up now is simply a bid to drag his name through the mud.

If that little detail doesn’t make you want to rub your temples, this probably will.

Jolie’s lawyers shot back with a statement of their own, which they released to People. They point out the obvious fact that a real estate loan isn’t child support, and that Jolie’s request is for 50 per cent of the costs of raising their kids.

Oy. Vey.

“What has been filed by Brad’s side today is a blatant attempt to obfuscate the truth and distract from the fact that he has not fully met his legal obligations to support the children,” lawyer Samantha Bley DeJean said in the statement. “Following the incident of September 2016, Angelina and the children needed to move from the family home, which Brad chose to keep, including all of its contents… [Pitt was] asked to assist in the expense of a new home for Angelina [and their six children but] instead he loaned Angelina money, for which he is charging her interest on a payment plan.”

“Angelina has had to shoulder the majority of those [expenses] without his contribution for the past two years,” the lawyer continued. “Child support is not optional in California. Typically a father of means would pay these expenses voluntarily without the need for a request or court order. We are hopeful that this can be resolved without further delay or posturing.”

Like, guys. How bad must things have gotten between these two that the lawyers are now releasing competing statements? There’s so much he-said, she-said it’s beginning to make our heads hurt. It’s sad isn’t it, how divorce can come back to bite the kids?

At this point we’re basically waiting to see what Pitt’s attorneys are going to come back with next, but what we do know is that whatever it is, it won’t be pretty.

Wouldn’t it be nice for everyone involved if these two could just move on already?

Celebrities… they really are just like us.
