It’s time for Duchess Meghan and Thomas Markle‘s rift to come to an end. At least, that’s what the royal’s half-brother, Tom Jr., believes. In fact, he thinks Megs and Thomas would be doing just fine had it not been for Meghan’s fame and her royal in-laws, all of which has changed Megs for the worse.

“It’s not the Meghan I remember,” Tom told the Daily Mail. “The Meg I remember was very caring and she cared about everybody — that was important to her. Since Hollywood and being on that show — being a celebrity has changed her. Maybe she feels she is above everybody, maybe even more now.”

He added: “But if she wasn’t with Prince Harry right now — even if she was still on Suits right now — she would have stopped what she was doing to go and visit him and make sure he’s ok.”

Tom says that before she started on Suits, Megs and their dad were in “constant contact all the time and that’s all he would ever talk about.” But once she landed the show, she no longer needed him and he would have to be the one to reach out. “I think their relationship became a lot more distant then and that hurt his feelings.”

So they’ve been growing apart long before Meghan’s relationship with Harry even began. But Tom still found a way to bring up the royal wedding, wondering why the Markle family can’t be looked after like the Middletons.

“They have [brought outsiders in] before in the past like with the Middletons. I don’t see why our family is any different,” mused Tom. “Kensington Palace could have got involved a long time ago — as soon as they announced their engagement. They’ve dealt with this kind of stuff for a long time and why they did it this way, that’s the big question? Why? They could have looked after my dad and he would have been happy.”

Tom then referred to Kate’s uncle, Gary Goldsmith, who still scored an invite to Kate and William’s 2011 nuptials despite his drug use and domestic assault conviction.

“I think Uncle Gary and I would get along just fine,” added Tom. “It would have been nice to at least get an invite to the wedding like he was.”

With Meghan reportedly set to visit mom Doria Ragland in the U.S. soon, Tom thinks he should also make a stop to see their dad.

“No father-daughter relationship should be like this,” he said. “I feel for him because of how strong their relationship was and what it’s become now. That’s got to hurt anybody.”

The difference between Meghan’s father and Carole Middleton‘s younger brother is that Markle has repeatedly sold his daughter out by giving interviews, sharing personal photographs and slamming the royals in the media. Uncle Gary was simply living his worst life, doing things that didn’t directly impact his niece or her in-laws. Should the Palace have nipped this in the bud long ago? Probably. But what Thomas is doing now is only hurting his cause. As for Tom Jr., he might want Meg and their dad to mend their relationship but it’s hard not to look for an ulterior motive on his end.
