It’s safe to say that The Fault in Our Stars actor Ansel Elgort is no stranger to making controversial headlines—this is the same guy who’s all about an open relationship without the sex, after all. But when he posted a nude picture of himself on social media recently, fans everywhere were left wondering whether self-isolation was getting to the 26-year-old.As it turns out, Elgort—like many other celebrities right now—was using his star power to draw attention to a good cause. In the most shocking way possible, of course. The photo, in which he was in the shower covering his special parts with his hand, pointed followers to a link in his bio that would supposedly click to his OnlyFans account. Baby Driver indeed: OnlyFans is a social media site that shares racy pics and videos for a fee. Except in this particular case the account was a farce, and Elgort was sending curious fans to a GoFundMe page instead.“Fell for it hard,” Cody Simpson wrote in the comments of the since-deleted post. “Ur the worst,” Diplo added as Nicky Romero joked, “The worst is yet to come.” If by worst he means best, then the DJ wasn’t far off. The crowd-funding initiative Elgort was hocking was Brooklyn For Life!, a campaign for a group of Brooklyn restaurants that are delivering 2,500 daily meals to Brooklyn Hospital workers during the coronavirus pandemic. The fundraiser was created by Westworld actor Jeffrey Wright and has so far raised more than $200,000 of its $1 million goal.So the photo was for a good cause, but the real question lingering on fans’ minds is who snapped the shot? All signs point to the photographer in question being Elgort’s father, Arthur Elgort. The famous photog was also tagged in the OG post. That’s certainly one way to bond with your family members while social distancing.Naturally the photo didn’t stay up for long before someone reported it for graphic content. Instagram takes these things seriously after all, and Elgort, who has also starred in young adult offerings like Divergent, has quite a number of young fans. That hasn’t deterred him from continuing to spread the good word about Brooklyn For Life! though. He quickly posted a video of a sunset instead, writing “sex sells better than sunsets, plz donate at link in bio.”

Currently Elgort is waiting out the coronavirus pandemic at home like so many other celebrities, but his latest project, Steven Spielberg’s movie musical adaptation of West Side Story, is still scheduled for a 2020 theatrical release. In the meantime the actor is also on hiatus from his upcoming HBO Max TV series Tokyo Vice, which halted production in mid-March because of the pandemic. Elgort stars as the lead in the televised version of Jake Adelstein’s non-fiction book of the same name. The high-stakes story revolves around an American journalist who became embedded in the Tokyo Vice police squad to reveal corruption; it’s also Elgort’s first TV series. No word on whether any nudies will be involved in the eventual campaign for viewers.[video_embed id='-1']Before you go: Ansel Elgort embarrassing Nicole Kidman is the cutest thing[/video_embed]
